AOA Xinetics (AOX), a wholly owned Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Payload and Ground Systems Division Business Unit, is a leading supplier of complex electro-optic and photonic systems and subsystems that control and manipulate light waves for a variety of applications.  Our talented team of engineers, managers and technologists conceive, design, develop and manufacture high precision products in an environment that requires significant collaboration and teamwork among multiple engineering disciplines. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support our engineering team in East Hartford, CT.

Overview

Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Principal Electrical Engineer is a member of an interdisciplinary team of engineers and scientists working on a variety of design and development projects. The successful candidate should have proven abilities in electronic hardware product design, design support, testing, proposal development, and requirement specifications development efforts.

This role may be filled as Electrical Engineer (level 2) or as a Principal Electrical Engineer (level 3)

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with peers and other engineering disciplines in planning, designing, and prototyping complex electromechanical and optical systems

  • Design electronic circuit boards for use in electromechanical systems for commercial, industrial, defense/government and other industries

  • Provides technical solutions to a wide range of complex difficult problems

  • Complete tasks according to schedule, budget, cost, and design objectives

  • Works under general direction, independently determines and develops approach to solutions

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering

  • 2+ years of experience in analog, digital, and mixed signal electronic system design

  • Full lifecycle design experience of multilayer SMT printed circuit boards (PCBs)

  • Design experience that includes signal conditioning, pulse width modulation, microcontrollers, control and feedback systems, distributed hardware systems, etc.

  • Design experience that includes Ethernet, CAN, USB, UART, I2C, and SPI

  • Electronic circuit design simulation experience using SPICE

  • Hands on use of oscilloscopes, function generators, DMM and JTAG development tools

  • Strong communication skills; verbal, written, and presentation

  • Proficiency using MS Office

  • US Citizenship is a bona fide requirement

  • Must have the ability to obtain a Top Secret Security Clearance

Basic Requirements for a Principal Electrical Engineer (level 3):

  • Same basic requirements as above, except with 5+ years of experience in analog, digital, and mixed signal electronic system design

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Analog design experience in analog low noise, analog filters, shielding, and/or EMI

  • Circuit design experience in low power applications

  • Experience developing motor control circuits for stepper and BLDC motors

  • Design experience using the STM32 ARM Cortex microcontrollers

  • Embedded design experience incorporating Xilinx FPGAs

  • Digital hardware design and simulation experience using VHDL

  • Schematic capture using Siemens / Mentor Graphics DxDesigner

  • Experience developing embedded firmware using C

  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance

Salary Range: $85,000 USD - $127,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
