Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is hiring a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer with experience in aircraft subsystems development to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Organization in Melbourne, FL.  CURRENT CLEARANCE PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED.

Job Summary: The Sr Principal Electrical Engineer - Vehicle Subsystems & Integration may be involved in multiple aspects of aircraft subsystem development including electrical design, analysis, requirements, lab testing, data post processing, and issue troubleshooting.  Aircraft subsystems include Avionic System Architecture, Cable Design, and Electrical Power Generation & Distribution.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop electrical wiring designs of a functional system including the selection of aircraft-type conductors and electro-mechanical components such as connectors, relays, switches, circuit breakers, terminal junction systems, etc. in accordance with SAE AS 50881 and proven commercial practices.

  • Support design requirements for electrical power generation, conversion and distribution systems, and circuit protective requirements for aerospace vehicle systems including Electrical Loads Analysis, test procedures, power architectures, reports, analyses, and other vehicle power related deliverables. Familiarization with MIL-STD-704 required

  • Responsible for all aspects of system/component design and development including trade studies, layouts, architecture definition, system test & verification, and troubleshooting. 

  • May participate on a subcontractor management team and will act as the technical point of contact with suppliers for hardware development, qualification, and procurement

  • System level test planning, execution support, verification, data processing, and troubleshooting

  • System level evaluations to verify requirements and ensure airworthiness criteria are met

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal Electrical Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant STEM discipline and 9 years of related engineering experience; OR Master’s degree in a relevant STEM discipline and 7 years of related engineering experience; OR Ph.D. in a relevant STEM discipline and 4 years of related engineering experience

  • Experience in electrical design of air vehicle systems

  • Able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to start

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current, in-scope DoD Secret or higher clearance

  • Current/active Special Program Access (PAR/SAP)

  • Experience with military aircraft subsystem development, with requirements definition, specification development, component analysis, procurement, source selection, integration and test and verification for advance aircraft

  • Experience interpreting component detail drawings, specifications, installation drawings, and test procedures

  • Experience leading a project or team


    Salary Range: $112,000 USD - $168,000 USD

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
