OVERVIEW:
As a Senior Principal Electronics Reliability Engineer at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. We are seeking an Enthusiastic, Motivated Engineer to join our team at our Linthicum, Maryland location.

  • This position is for full-time on-site, located at facility nearby the Northrup Grumman Mission Systems main campus in Linthicum, MD

RESPONSIBILITIES
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide engineering direction on failure analysis, circuit analysis, design, processing, and device physics support. Develop new analysis techniques.

  • Responsible for isolating and characterizing failure modes and understand the physics of failure at a fundamental level.

  • Characterization and verification of failures using bench test equipment. Decap parts using chemical and/or mechanical methods. Use of failure analysis techniques such as liquid crystal, probing, voltage contrast, cross-sectioning, and others.

  • Define and execute of environmental screening and reliability testing; which includes test design, setup, instrumentation, data logging, analysis, and report generation.

  • Highly cross-functional role, working directly with engineers of various disciplines, program management, quality, manufacturing.

  • Attend conferences communicate and network externally to keep abreast of new technologies and information

  • Serve as a subject matter expert to support physics of failure, root cause analysis, reliability and failure analysis

Basic Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field

  • A Bachelor's degree and at least 9 years of relevant work experience, 7 years with a Masters, 4 with PhD

  • Perform failure analysis which include visual photo-documentation, electrical test, non-destructive troubleshooting, destructive test and present technical findings to customers

  • Experience operating laboratory equipment such as IR Scope, Micro-probe, X-Ray, Scanning Electron Microscope, Acoustic Microscope (C-SAM), Focused Ion Beam (FIB)

  • Ability to read schematics and layouts and apply failure analysis procedures to identify the failure location, failure mechanism, and the root causes.

  • Experience with electronic test equipment (digital/analog) such as curve tracers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and test systems to do board failure analysis and debugging.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, articulate conclusions to the team and advocate for appropriate action; includes presenting up to executive leadership and customers.

  • Ability to perform well under-pressure for highly visible and urgent issues.

  • Familiarity with industry standards (JEDEC, MIL) for qualifying electronics components for reliability

  • Proficiency in writing formal analysis reports that are distributed to internal and external customers.

  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interpret IC Design: Read schematics and layout plots, understand device functionality

  • Knowledge of CMOS and compound semi-conductor devices, device processing, device physics, basic chemistry and defect failure mechanisms

  • Skills in circuit analysis

  • Ability to design and develop custom device/component life tests

  • Knowledge of legacy and advanced microelectronic package technologies, materials, manufacturing, plating, and wire bond assembly

  • Familiarity with power supply circuit designs and troubleshooting


Salary Range: $112,300 USD - $168,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
