Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking Power Electronics Engineers to join our growing design team located in Sykesville, MD. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Power Electronics design group, working with other engineers to develop state of the art power supplies and power products for military applications.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Lead power supply design teams, including simulation and analysis, schematic creation, component selection, and printed wiring board layout.
  • Lead technical studies, providing teams with internal and external knowledge of the technical industry and how it impacts the company, demonstrating broad technical expertise.
  • Serves as organization spokesperson on multiple advanced projects and/or programs that have a direct impact on the sector (both technical and non-technical). Acts as advisor to management, co-workers and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications. Maintains critical external customer contact to understand their technical needs.
  • Provides technical leadership, direction and mentoring to other technical employees in the application of scientific principles, tools and techniques to achieve practical end results.
  • Serves as an authority on scientific principles and broad technical areas.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science Electrical Engineering or equivalent and 14+ years of hands-on power supply or power systems design and development experience, 12 years with a Master's Degree; 9 years with PhD.
  • Complete understanding of basic isolated and non-isolated circuit topologies & control techniques.
  • Complete understanding of simulation tools (e.g. SPICE, LTSpice, SABER), MathCad.
  • Ability to work under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives.
  • US Citizen and must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Secret clearance (or higher).
  • Complete understanding of power supply EMI/EMC filtering and design.
  • Digital control experience.
  • Active power factor correction design expertise.
  • Magnetic component design experience.
  • High voltage design expertise.
  • Deep understanding of power related Mil-Stds for power quality and electromagnetic interference.
  • Hardware development team leadership experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Salary Range: $170,600 USD - $256,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
