Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Director 1 of Vehicle Engineering. This leadership role is located in San Diego, CA and will report to the Sr Director of Vehicle Engineering.
Job summary: This role provides functional, strategic and operational leadership to the Vehicle Engineering (VE) directorate of employees at multiple sites across a variety of aircraft development and sustaining disciplines such as configuration, aerodynamics, propulsion, guidance, navigation and controls, loads and dynamics, mechanisms, fluid systems, electrical systems, materials and processes, structures, liaison engineering and tools development. Successful leadership of this organization will require agile staffing, driving competitiveness through development and deployment of world-class people, processes, tools, and products.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
Provides leadership, shape strategic vision and direction, and oversight of all major functions within VE
High-level responsibilities including risk management, schedule and cost status/reviews, budget management, and program- level briefings to leadership and/or customers
Long-range strategic planning and all aspects of functional homeroom performance
Provides ownership for the people, processes, and tools that support divisions and programs to achieve their missions
Overseeing program/project reviews, NCTA and Indirect activities, process improvement plans, proposal review and signoff, and capital planning and management
May assist in proposal support, independent technical reviews, program standup reviews, technical audits, and sector operating objective execution

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 12 years of related experience, OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 10 years of related experience
Experience in a vehicle engineering discipline
Experience providing technical leadership over an engineering team
Experience with program/project reviews, process improvement plans, proposal reviews, and capital planning
Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time, as determined by business needs
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in an engineering or management discipline
5 years of management experience leading a team of engineers
Experience on NCTA / IRAD programs
Experience developing sourcing strategies to include soliciting/analyzing requests for proposals, negotiating contracts and coordinating supplier integration plans
Experience creating presentations and briefing executive leadership
Experience interfacing with a DoD customer
Experience working with unmanned air vehicles
Ability to collaborate within a team and across team environments
Ability to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish desired results
Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
