Northrop Grumman, Strategic Space Systems Division, has an opening for a Principal Industrial Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Manhattan Beach, California.

Responsibilities:

Analyzes operations and work flow to improve efficiencies to incorporate into production schedules Collaborates on methods for maximum utilization of production capacity and personnel. May establish or assist in managing training programs for personnel concerning all phases of production operations. Conducts studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control, and production record systems. On the basis of these studies, develops and implements plans and program schedules for production.

The Principal Industrial Engineer supports the Master Production Scheduling organization in process, capacity and systems & integration projects. Have an understanding of Industrial Engineering and Production Scheduling, as well as in using ERP systems such as SAP.  Individual will help interpret capacity analysis and incorporate into what-if scenario simulations before applying to project schedule for review.

Skills Requirements:

  • Strong foundation in Industrial Engineering fundamentals including the principles of capacity (efficiencies, standards, constraints, etc.)

  • Experience with project and manufacturing schedules

  • Engage and collaborate with programs and functional organizations (from individual contributors to executive staff) to obtain, understand, and interpret manufacturing facilitation and scheduling requirements

  • Document, track and monitor problems to ensure a timely resolution

  • Documentation of process and system problems/resolution for future reference

  • Possess strong organizational, planning and decision making skills, and the ability to work cohesively as a member of current and cross-functional teams

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline plus 5 years of engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline plus 3 years of engineering experience

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience with using ERP systems such as SAP

  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance OR SCI Access.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Shop Floor Control Systems

  • Experience with Discrete Event Simulation Software

  • Current in scope SCI Clearance, DoD

  • Strong Understanding of SAP/MRP Systems

  • Effective verbal and written communications skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and self-starter

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Project, and PowerPoint


Salary Range: $95,000 USD - $142,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
