Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Material Process Engineer or a Principal Material Process Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in Palmdale, CA within the Palmdale Aircraft Integration Center of Excellence (PAICoE) organization.

This position is a 3-10, 1st shift position (workdays - Friday, Saturday, Sunday). You will work 30 hours but get paid for a 40-hour work week.

The selected candidate will work in a team environment with other engineering organizations performing detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications and manufacturing plans. You will be responsible for analyzing, researching, and developing materials and their related application processes for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems, and also also apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material science to investigate material issues and provide solutions.

Basic Qualifications for a Material Process Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science or other STEM degree with 2+ years of relevant experience (Master’s degree may count towards an additional 2 years of experience).
  • Experience working with composite pre-pregs, honeycombs, and adhesive materials; Fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for aircraft composite structures.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science or other STEM degree with 5+ years of relevant experience (Master’s degree may count towards an additional 2 years of experience).
  • Experience working with composite pre-pregs, honeycombs, and adhesive materials; Fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for aircraft composite structures.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or Material Science
  • Relevant experience with working on military aircraft
  • Experience with preparing and presenting oral and written reports
  • Knowledge in material testing and lab equipment
  • Experience in writing and maintaining material and process specifications


Salary Range: $77,100 USD - $115,700 USD
Salary Range 2: $95,000 USD - $142,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
