Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Industrial Engineer/ Principal Industrial Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in Palmdale, CA.

The Industrial Engineering Team is an integral part of day to day operations and routinely works alongside many of the other organizations here in Palmdale. This is a team that comes together to learn, collaborate, and overcome challenges in a fast paced environment. Responsibilities will include:

  • Helps determine the most efficient sequence of operations and work flow and provides finite scheduling to manufacturing cost centers and IPTs

  • Maintains datasets and generates metrics that provide for the measurement of program & functional schedule & cost performance.

  • Develops and deploys plans that ensure the timely availability and effective utilization of labor, facilities, equipment, & tooling resources enabling the achievement of program delivery and cost milestones

  • Analyzes lead times, queue times, work-in-process, cycle times, and throughput to meet customer demand most effectively and efficiently

  • Builds scalable and sustainable models to optimize product flow, while incorporating cost, schedule, and resource constraints

  • Develops optimized scheduling tools and aligns SAP/MRP systems with an executable plan given various capacity constraints

  • Incorporates complex interdependencies within a system to account for the interaction of multiple cost centers, programs, equipment, and tools

  • Communicates requirements planning and systems framework with IT, ERP, business analytics, and data science teams

  • Works with developers to design an interactive user interface that will be effective at scheduling jobs across cost centers

  • Guides digital transformation efforts to align with sector and enterprise strategies

  • Leads and drives positive change using iterative and agile methodologies

  • Creates new metrics and data visualizations to monitor shop floor performance

Basic Qualifications for Industrial Engineer: 

  • Bachelor's Degree with 2 or more years of engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience; OR a Master’s Degree with 0 or more years of engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience; Or an Associate’s Degree with 4 years of engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience; Or 6 year of engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance and agility to obtain Program access

  • MRP/MES experience.

  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite experience such as Visio, Project, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Experience with data mining, data analysis, or data visualization software applications

Basic Qualifications for Principal Industrial Engineer: 

  • Bachelor's Degree with 4 or more years of engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience; OR a Master’s Degree with 2 or more years of engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience; Or an Associate’s Degree with 6 years of engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience; Or 8 year of engineering, manufacturing, or data analysis experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance and agility to obtain Program access

  • MRP/MES experience.

  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite experience such as Visio, Project, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Experience with data mining, data analysis, or data visualization software applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment.

  • STEM Degree Preferred

  • Active in-scope DOD Secret security clearance that has been granted / renewed within the past 5 years

  • At least 2 years of demonstrated experience leading project teams.

  • Experience with improving manufacturing workflow using optimization, modeling, or simulation methods.

  • Familiarity with mixed model manufacturing operations.

  • Experience with agile methods of project management or development.


Salary Range: $77,100 USD - $115,700 USD
Salary Range 2: $95,000 USD - $142,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
