Job Description:

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems located in Palmdale, CA has an opening for a Principal Materials and Process Engineer or Sr. Principal Materials and Process Engineer.  The selected candidate will be responsible for analyzing, researching, and developing materials and their related application processes for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.  
 

This position will be located in Palmdale, CA and can be performed in the 4/10, 1st shift

• Monday - Thursday on a 4 day - 10 hours/day schedule. Essential Functions:

Essential Functions:

• Work in a high paced team environment to support program goals and schedules.

• Will be responsible for analyzing, researching, and developing materials and their related application processes for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.

• Develop solutions to difficult problems that are thorough, imaginative, practical, and consistent with program objectives.

• Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to investigate material issues and provide solutions.

• Be responsible for new conceptual layouts, detailed engineering designs of structural composites, modifications, integration of advanced materials, and drawing reviews.

• Perform detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications and manufacturing plans in a team environment with other engineering organization.

• Evaluation of as built products for conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications.

• Coordination and clear communication with other disciplines during the development of design solutions. 

• Concise presentation and explanation of materials and process issues/solutions to internal management and customer representatives.

Note: This position can be filled at a Principal Engineer Materials and Process or Sr. Principal Engineer Materials and Process level.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Engineer Materials and Process:

• Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 5 years of relevant industry experience or 3 years experience with a Master's STEM degree or years experience with a PhD

• Minimum 5 year of experience working with pre-pregs, honeycombs, and adhesive materials; fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for composite structures.

• Must have an active DoD Secret clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).

• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.

Preferred Qualifications for a Principal Engineer Materials and Process:

• Advanced degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or Material Science

• Relevant experience with working on military aircraft

• Experience with preparing and presenting oral and written reports

• Knowledge in material testing and lab equipment

• Experience in writing and maintaining material and process specifications

Salary Range: $95,000 USD - $142,400 USD

Salary Range 2: $117,700 USD - $176,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
