Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Material Process Engineer or a Senior Principal Material Process Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.

This position can be staffed in Palmdale, CA or Oklahoma City, OK.

The selected candidate will be responsible for analyzing, researching, and developing materials and their related application processes for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. 
 
The candidate will apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material science to investigate material issues and provide solutions as well as work in a team environment with other engineering organizations performing detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications, and manufacturing plans.
 
If staffed in Oklahoma City, OK, this position may require some travel to Palmdale, CA

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Material Process Engineer: 

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM degree with 5 years of related experience; OR a Master's Degree in STEM with 3 years of related experience; OR a PhD in STEM with 0 years of experience.
  • Familiar with CMCs, composite pre-pregs, honeycombs, and adhesive materials
  • Fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for aircraft composite structures,
  • Familiar with metallic materials and processes
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM degree with 9 years of related experience; OR a Master's Degree in STEM with 7 years of related experience; OR a PhD in STEM with 4 years of related experience.
  • Familiar with CMCs, composite pre-pregs, honeycombs, and adhesive materials
  • Fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for aircraft composite structures,
  • Familiar with metallic materials and processes
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Top Secret DOD clearance
  • Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Metallurgy, or related field.
  • Experience with working on military aircraft 
  • Experience preparing and presenting oral and written reports
  • Experience with material Obsolescence issues and qualifying materials
  • Experience with LO materials

This position reports to Palmdale, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Oklahoma City, OK, OK, USA.


Salary Range: $77,700 USD - $116,500 USD
Salary Range 2: $96,200 USD - $144,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
