Northrop Grumman Aeronautical Systems has an opening for an Engineer 3 commodity engineer to join our Strategic Sourcing Engineering team.  This role under Global Supply Chain (GSC) supplier management organization will perform sourcing, supplier development and sustainment support activities for multiple military air-vehicle program platforms for the NGAS sector.  This position is located in Redondo Beach, CA.  Flex available to work remotely part time with manager approval.  The Commodity Engineer is responsible for supply base technical management related to acquiring military hardware requirements. This position requires a motivated self-starter able to work independently and as a team player who can multi-task and communicate effectively with varying levels of program.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide sourcing recommendation to general procurement and major subcontract internal customers utilizing strategic sourcing tools.

  • Identifying and on-boarding new sources of supply for assigned commodities.

  • Conducting capability assessments, performing supplier audits and performance monitoring of suppliers for assigned commodities.

  • Support of mechanical commodities in strategic sourcing group.

  • Travel required up to 25%.

Required Skills:

  • Working knowledge of at least one of the following commodities: Machined parts, Sheet Metal, Composites, or Structural Assemblies

  • Work effectively with Engineering, and Materials & Processes (M&P) organizations to help resolve technical supplier challenges.

  • Support successful execution with Global Supply Chain and Supplier Quality organizations through the source selection and acquisition cycles.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, or Mathematical) degree, with 5 years of experience in an Engineering or Manufacturing role; OR master’s degree with 3 years' experience in Engineering/Manufacturing

  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting engineering drawings and CAD models for fabrication of parts. (i.e. machines parts, sheet metal, composites)

  • 3D modeling experience with Siemens NX and/or CATIA

  • Experience using SAP, Windows software packages, and other electronic databases.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Experiences:

  • Prior direct work experience with CNC programming to fabricate aerospace parts.

  • Understanding of post-production processing requirement and familiarity with NADCAP (i.e., Chemical, Heat Treat, …)

  • ASME Y14.5 GD&T certification

  • In-depth experienced navigating transactions in SAP to extract data.

  • Knowledge of FAR & DFAR requirements

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 requirements

  • Special Access Program and/or DoD Top Secret clearance

This position reports to Redondo Beach, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Unknown City, CA, CA, USA.


Salary Range: $95,000 USD - $142,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
