Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a SR Principal Manufacturing Engineer based out of Sunnyvale, CA. You will support the manufacturing and testing of marine propulsion and power generations systems working on various manufacturing processes for high-value gearing and steam turbine assemblies, machined components, and welded fabrications. These processes include precision machining operations.

What You'll get to Do:

  • Development of tooling systems with emphasis on gear generation both pre and post heat treat with focus on continuous improvement related to quality and throughput.
  • Development of supporting process documentation for gear generating equipment set-up, inspection, and changeover.
  • Provide support on manufacturing feasibility and gear inspection.
  • Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
  • Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan. Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques.
  • Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques. Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology Engineering or Math) with 14+ years of relevant work experience; Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 12+ years of relevant work experience; PhD with 9+ years of experience.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment as a process owner (process, equipment, documentation, special training).
  • Hands on experience machining and troubleshooting of machines or being in a machine shop environment.
  • Experience with gear manufacturing and/or grinding. 
  • Comfortable and able to work well as part of an integrated team including skilled machinists, engineers, and management.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance which requires US citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with gear manufacturing and/or grinding. 
  • Experience measuring and analyzing precision parts. 
  • Capable of programming CNC lathes, mills and/or grinders. 

Salary Range: $141,800 USD - $212,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
