Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) wants you to join our team as an SR Principal Manufacturing Engineer based in Sunnyvale, CA. You will support the manufacturing test facility to test marine propulsion and power generation systems working on various manufacturing processes for high-value gearing and steam turbine assemblies. The ideal candidate will be able to work individually and collaborate with diverse individuals tactically but with an eye toward future strategy and exhibit solid communication skills with internal management personnel and clients.  

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for taking the steam test facility process and converting it into a sequence of detailed manufacturing instructions. The activities involved as part of this role include:

  • Create new and modify existing Manufacturing Engineering Instruction Sheet (MEIS) with necessary operations to support test sequence while including specifications/quality requirements.
  • Develop tooling/fixtures to conduct the steps of the operations and to serve as manufacturing aids for technicians.
  • Guide Design Engineering during drawing reviews regarding design concepts and specification requirements to utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques best; and to identify any manufacturability challenges or changes required ahead of drawing release.
  • Guide technicians on the test stand to assist with any technical questions regarding the product testing and to resolve issues regarding non-conformances.
  • Investigate and initiate corrective action to ensure product quality; resolve quality issues that arise during the test process to ensure all equipment conforms to the design configuration.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 14+ years of relevant work experience; Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 12+ years of relevant work experience; PhD with 9+ years of experience.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment as a process owner (process, equipment, documentation, unique training).
  • Comfortable and able to work well as part of an integrated team, including skilled technicians, engineers, and management.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance which requires US citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Secret Clearance.
  • Experience providing innovative techniques focused on improving product designs and tooling for naval nuclear propulsion program
  • Experience providing technical writing using engineering drawings and technical descriptions to write procedures
  • Familiar with submarine systems.

Salary Range: $141,800 USD - $212,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
