Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Hardware Engineering Discipline Lead to manage and guide the major hardware execution efforts on the DARC program. The DARC Hardware Engineering Discipline Lead will primarily be responsible to manage and execute the buildup of the various compute environments supporting DARC within Colorado Springs, Colorado and eventually to the program site. These environments consist of high-performance computing clusters, InfiniBand network designs, virtualization, GPFS file systems and multi security level classification protection. This role requires a strong technical knowledge base in the design, development, and fielding of military information technology environments to include networking, parallel processing, and system administration disciplines. A secondary role for this position is to support the management and technical oversight of the major subcontractors responsible for analog hardware components (receivers, transmitters, exciters, and antenna’s) of DARC. This position will work closely the various hardware subsystem leads, Systems Engineering, and Program Management, to ensure the DARC Hardware design, components and environments meet requirements and program critical milestone objectives. Support of schedule, cost, and risk management as it relates to the hardware engineering discipline are also within the scope of this role. This exciting new opportunity will be based in Colorado Springs, CO.

As the DARC Hardware Engineering Discipline lead you will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating, enabling, and leading the successful deployment of up to three IT environments required by the program.

  • Ensuring adequate integration with other Sub System functions involved in the delivery of the program.

  • Leading in the facilitation of technical meetings to establish future state process architecture and details.

  • Architect and map/draw process diagrams, using business modeling tools (Cameo), while discussing with subject matter experts

  • Support and manage risk associated with the DARC Hardware Engineering Discipline.

  • Conduct and support any trade studies associated with the DARC hardware design.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree STEM with 14 Years with Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with Masters; 9 Years with PhD.

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tool suite.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

  • Ability to lead of team of greater than 10 people.

  • Experience with designing and implementing large complex military IT environments and familiarity with the associated disciplines (i.e. Networking, Computer System Architecture, System Administration)

  • Experience with network security boundaries and CDS/Network TAP solutions

  • Experienced in integrating large, complex systems made up of complex hardware and software elements.

  • Systems engineering experience across the entire development life cycle.

  • Experience working with major subcontractors with a strong commitment to shared success.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science Degree in a STEM field (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering).

  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance with the ability to achieve SCI.

  • Model Based System Engineering.

  • Experienced with ground-based radar systems design, development, and sustainment.

  • Practical application of Agile mythologies.

  • Agile tool set experience (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).

  • Technical background in one or more of the following: RF theory, large parabolic aperture development, two axis positioner mechanical design and analysis, heating, and cooling system design.

  • Hands on experience with various types of test equipment, such as spectrum/network analyzers, signal generators, and optical power meters.

  • Program and schedule management experience.

  • Cost Account management experience.


Salary Range: $146,300 USD - $219,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
