Northrop Grumman Defense Systems has an opening for a HW Engineer at the 3 or 4 level to join the JTAGS-P3I team located in Colorado Springs, CO. The JTAGS HW Engineer role requires a broad array of knowledge and skills heavily focused on all aspects of HW for the JTAGS program.

Our ideal candidate will possess prior DoD experience and have a general knowledge and understanding of implementing practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered. The candidate will have the ability to work with little to no instruction on routine work, and with limited general instruction on any new work or special assignments. Typical duties and tasks for this role are varied and moderately complex.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the team with HW rack installations, HW troubleshooting, engineering drawing development/maintenance, vendor solicitation, CONUS/OCONUS field installations, field maintenance/repairs, HW maintenance at the local labs, as well as regular customer interaction. 
  • Conducts research, design, development, and testing of information processing hardware such as computer chips, circuit boards, computer systems, and electrical components.Designs new or modifies existing products, develops technical specifications for production, analyzes hardware configuration and processing solutions, and tests hardware conformance to specifications.
  • We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic and the ability to work in a collaborative fast-moving, dynamic team environment.

This requisition is open as a dual level opportunity. We are open to considering candidates at a level 3 or level 4.

Basic Qualifications:

Level 3:

  • 5 years of experience with a bachelor’s in science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance investigated within the last 5 years.
  • Knowledge of data processing hardware
  • Experience with rack-mount HW installations
  • Familiarity reading engineering drawings
  • Familiarity analyzing/modifying engineering drawings
  • Experience with HW troubleshooting
  • Familiarity building and testing RF cables

Level 4:

  • 9 years of experience with a bachelor’s in science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance investigated within the last 5 years.
  • Knowledge of data processing hardware
  • Experience with rack-mount HW installations
  • Experience reading engineering drawings
  • Experience analyzing/modifying engineering drawings
  • Experience with HW troubleshooting
  • Familiarity building and testing RF cables, serial cables, and ethernet cables
  • Familiarity with power connections, troubleshooting, and UPS management
  • Linux command line exposure
  • Familiarity with scripting (Python/PowerShell/Bash/etc...)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior missile warning program experience (i.e. JTAGS, SBIRS, AMP, etc.)
  • Mechanically inclined with working knowledge of standard mechanical tools
  • SATCOM antenna experience
  • Training or advanced knowledge specific to Cisco, NetApp, HP servers, and Dell servers
  • Familiarity with COMSEC principles and cryptographic equipment


Salary Range: $86,300 USD - $129,500 USD
Salary Range 2: $107,000 USD - $160,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
