At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.

Northrop Grumman's EDIC group delivers full-custom ICs to provide the core functionality of our Advanced Multifunction Sensor products. In support of that activity, we are seeking a Principal Analog Integrated Circuit Design Engineer.

Location:

Position may be filled in any of these Northrop locations:

  • Rolling Meadows, IL
  • Linthicum, MD
  • Morrisville, NC

Position Overview:

The Design Engineer will support the design and implementation of analog circuits which provide regulated voltages currents and sense RF signals as well as other circuit operating conditions. The analog parameters are supplied in digital form for use by the host system to allow accurate control, test and instrumentation. Most of our designs operate at radio and microwave frequencies but we also design circuits to operate in the optical frequency range from Long Wave IR to the visible part of the spectrum. For these circuits, the analog circuitry is in the primary signal path and provides wide dynamic range signal processing and conversion.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering - ideally with some credits in Microelectronics or Semiconductor Physics
  • 5 years of relevant experience with B.S. or 3 Years with an M.S. degree
  • Strong transistor level circuit design and analysis skills
  • Good understanding of fundamental semiconductor device physics
  • Familiar common analog circuits such as amplifiers, bandgap volage references, voltage regulators as well as A/D and D/A converters
  • Signal processing functions such as Integrators, differentiators and filters
  • Familiarity with schematic entry and simulation tools such as Cadence Virtuoso and Spectre. Use of the tools to characterize DC and AC performance such as bandwidth, gain/phase margin, PSRR over process/voltage/temperature corners.
  • Should be familiar with integrated circuit layout and best practices to ensure good component matching and minimize errors due to parasitic effects.
  • Eligible for a Secret or higher security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience of completing a custom IC design to tape-out
  • Use of robust design techniques backed up by simulation coverage
  • Accustomed following a rigorous design process with checkpoint reviews
  • Familiarity with use of IC Layout tools is not a requirement but candidates with some experience of layout implementation or a willingness to learn would be strongly preferred.

This position reports to Baltimore, MD, USA, however, you are able to work from any of the additional 10 locations listed above.

Salary Range: $99,800 USD - $149,800 USD
