The Emerging Capabilities Development group of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Senior Principal Manufacturing Execution System Engineer in the Systems and Infrastructure group for our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL).  Located outside of Baltimore, Maryland we design, manufacture, and test semiconductor products for internal and commercial production customers as well as emerging technology programs. Northrop Grumman’s ATL semiconductor foundry is a unique capability supporting a range of production microelectronic devices (Silicon, Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, Silicon Carbide, Carbon Nanotubes) and providing leading edge technology development in superconducting electronics. Our devices enable a number of Northrop Grumman’s ground-based radars, avionic radars, and space systems. Our multidisciplinary foundry team enables activities from development to sustainment process engineering. ATL is responsible for all aspects of semiconductor technology including design, mask making, wafer fabrication, test, and assembly. The candidate must be a strong team participant, have excellent communication skills, and be resourceful and multi-talented. An understanding of semiconductor manufacturing is preferred, but is not necessary with other manufacturing experience. The main responsibility of the position is to support the organization through knowledge sharing about the business logic within our MES, and support in the requirements gathering of any potential improvements to the system ecosystem based on business needs. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strong leadership characteristics, a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. In this blended role, the ideal candidate will possess the ability to balance differing organizational needs to deliver the best possible solution within cost, schedule, and quality parameters while encouraging and rewarding innovative behaviors.


-Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into business and software solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

-Collaborates with cross-disciplined engineering teams throughout a project lifecycle.

-Understanding the business processes of the foundry and helping the software development team and systems engineers provide a solution to support the organizational need.

-Help to define the organizational technical processes that align with business goals and objectives.

-Holistic approach to defining the system or problem, then review potential solution spaces and alternatives that support and align to the goals of the organization.

-Effective communicator and educator of the operations of software systems to non-software engineers.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have Bachelor's degree + 9 years experience in Software, Industrial, Systems Engineering or other STEM related degree or master's degree with 7 yrs. experience or PhD with 4 yrs. experience.

  • Candidates are creative and able to imagine innovative, effective new solutions and designs within the Software and IT domain 

  • Comfortable with loosely-defined problems, have a demonstrated ability to think creatively, and draw upon a variety of sources for ideas and solutions

  • Experience working within software administration, with recent roles in Technical or Team Leadership positions.

  • Demonstrated success in solving complex problems in broad domains of expertise

  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office

  • Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain a Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Software, Industrial, Systems Engineering or other STEM related degree.

  • Experience working in Agile Frameworks

  • Previous experience working at a Microelectronic Foundry

  • 5+ yrs Manufacturing Execution Management experience

  • Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink, JMP, C/C++, and/or Python, Atlassian and MBSE tools

Salary Range: $123,800 USD - $185,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
