Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an opening for a Metrology Programming Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Beavercreek (Dayton), OH facility. We are a world-class manufacturer of composite structures, high temperature ceramics, radomes, and antenna systems for military applications. We design and manufacturer solutions for our war fighters to keep our country safe and maintain peace on a global scale.

Our Mechanical Engineering group works on state-of-the-art designs, primarily for classified applications, in both team and individual settings. Our multi-faceted team consists of engineers and scientist with backgrounds in electrical engineering, Low Observable (LO) technology, radio frequency (RF) test, mechanical, structural, thermal, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), material science, process, metrology, and quality. Our team enjoys both theoretical design and hands-on engineering tasks.

The Metrology Programming Engineer will be part of the CNC and CMM Programming Team, within the Mechanical Engineering Department.  You will work closely with other Programmers, Inspectors, and Machinists.  We deliver our internal customers a great team experience, from first request to development code, then production released code.  So together, we exceed our customer’s expectations for product quality and performance.

He / She will have good interpersonal communication and people skills needed to work with key stakeholders within other engineering disciplines to achieve program objectives in a timely manner. **This is a 1st shift position working a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off. This position requires onsite presence due to the nature of the role.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Creates programs and report templates for CMM and Leica Trackers to inspect items ranging from small metallic and non-metallic products to room size aircraft composite structures and related hard tooling
  • Works with Design Engineers, Quality Engineers, Quality Inspectors, and CNC Machining to develop measurement systems and techniques
  • Helps troubleshoot equipment and product issues
  • Prepares time estimates for proposals
  • Task planning and conduct technical peer reviews

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science with 5 years’ experience, Master’s Degree with 3 years’ experience, PHD with 0 years’ experience. (An additional 4 years of related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)
  • Experience in programming with CMMs
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and drawing interpretation
  • Experience in 3D modeling for tooling set-up and CMM Programming
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret level clearance, including Special Program Access within a reasonable period, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ​Active DoD Secret Security clearance, or higher
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Aerospace Engineering Technology
  • 2 years of experience with PolyWorks
  • 5 years of experience with fixed CMM or Laser Trackers
  • 5 years of Aerospace experience
  • Experience working in a Quality role
  • Experience with Mitutoyo 122010 and 910 CMMs
  • Experience programming or operating Leica Trackers
  • CNC Milling Machine Operations
  • Experience with 3D modeling with Siemens NX (highly preferred), or CATIA

Salary Range: $86,300 USD - $129,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
