Description

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has openings for a first shift Manufacturing Engineers to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position will be located in Clearfield, UT at the Aeronautics Composite Center Elevated (ACCE) building.

This position will support the A350 value stream in the production of aircraft stiffeners and frames.

The selected candidate will provide critical support to the production environment, working closely with Operations, Quality, Industrial Engineering, and Maintenance. Our goal is to minimize downtime on the production line by troubleshooting, problem solving and proactively identifying areas of concern. Our engineers work to continuously improve their processes, eliminating process variation and waste while building in quality.  Join us in the team effort to meet our production goals!

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) to develop and implement process improvements as well as support site initiatives
  • Work closely with manufacturing personnel to tackle production issues in hand layup, automated fiber placement, autoclave cure, nondestructive inspection (NDI), CNC machining, and assembly processes
  • Maintain and distribute daily shift issue logs, documenting both resolved and pending equipment/production issues for enhanced transfers between shifts
  • Author, modify, and audit shop floor planning and procedures
  • Performing root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities to permanently eliminate defects
  • Troubleshooting production/equipment/program/tooling issues and implementing improvements and solutions

The ideal candidate is a self-starter seeking autonomy and possesses both strong written and verbal communication skills. He/she should enjoy collaborating with others of varying backgrounds and roles, including but not limited to Production, Maintenance, and Quality, in a fast-paced environment to solve time-sensitive problems. We are a tight-knit team, and we enjoy working together to reach our mutual goals.

This position is for a day shift role that will work a 9/80 schedule, allowing team members an additional day off every-other week to partake in personal interests outside of work.

This role can be filled at a Manufacturing Engineer or Principal Manufacturing Engineer depending on the qualifications below.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Manufacturing Engineer

  • Bachelors Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 2+ years of work experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Microsoft Office experience, specifically with Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

Principal Manufacturing Engineer

  • Bachelors Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 5+ years of work experience in a manufacturing environment, or Masters Degree in a STEM field and 3+ years of work experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with process engineering or manufacturing engineering
  • Microsoft Office experience, specifically with Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Manufacturing, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering
  • Solid understanding of root cause / corrective action processes and techniques
  • Knowledge of composite hand layup, fiber placement, bonding, and/or curing
  • Experience using RCCA tools such as Five Why, Pareto, fishbone, etc.
  • Experience with Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
  • Experience using Catia V5
  • Experience using SPC to monitor and improve processes
  • Experience drafting, maintaining, and modifying work instructions and/or process specifications


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
