Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has multiple openings for Tooling Managers within the Tool Engineering organization. We have positions to be filled in Clearfield, Utah, and Iuka, Mississippi.
Our team designs Aerospace composite part fabrication tooling to support commercial and defense aerospace industries. The manager will direct a team of engineers to design, build, inspect and implement high value composite fabrication and assembly tooling. The manager will also be responsible to support tooling proposal efforts, manage staffing and represent the department internally and with customers.
Our team enjoys a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, diverse assignments, and collaboration with internal and external customers.
We work closely with manufacturing engineers, operations, CAD designers, safety, quality and procurement. We pride ourselves in influencing new methods to improve tooling safety, cost, schedule and operational efficiency.
Work schedule is day shift and a 9/80 work week.
Travel is intermittent, not expected to exceed 10%, and typically involves visits to vendors, customer facilities and Northrop Grumman sites.
Tooling Manager Job Duties:
- Lead, provide oversight and guidance to ensure program objectives relative to technical, quality, cost, schedule, and customer satisfaction requirements.
- Interface with internal and external customers; provide status and forecast of tooling cost and delivery.
- Identify and develop staffing/skill requirements, forecasts, and training plans.
- Develop, maintain, and update departmental procedures relative to the tooling life-cycle, from proposal to implementation.
- Perform Cost Account Manager (CAM) responsibilities to ensure compliance to EVMS for program direct budgets.
- Develop long-range plans and strategies to provide operationally efficient and affordable tooling products and services to fruition – continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with other Aeronautics Systems Sector Tooling Management to develop consistent process and procedures to help drive affordability and ensure the deployment of best practices across the sector.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM related discipline and a minimum of 9 years of experience in tooling, manufacturing, assembly lines, implementing technology into a production environment, or related; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM related discipline and a minimum of 7 years of experience in tooling, manufacturing, assembly lines, implementing technology into a production environment, or related
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance and Special Program access within a reasonable timeframe as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
- Current Special Program Access
- Previous Supervisory and Management experience in managing large projects, with an emphasis on tooling, manufacturing, assembly
- Implementing technology into a production environment
- Aerospace or Aviation Industry experience managing tool fabrication organizations, tooling fabrication shops, and tooling procurement
- Candidates should have solid project management, communication, and presentation skills
