Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Propulsion Systems is currently seeking Staff Process Engineer for our Composite Manufacturing Process Engineering team supporting the Promontory, UT facility.

Role description & Responsibilities:

  • This role is considered a subject matter expert role.

  • Staff Process Engineering role will be a combination of direct program work in the nozzle value stream and technical leadership tasks within the nozzle team and process engineering organization.

  • Direct program work will include designing, testing, and continually improving nozzle manufacturing processes; providing technical input to design, tooling, and facilities personnel; supporting Operations on the production floor and troubleshooting production issues; technical presentations to leadership and customers; authoring manufacturing planning and conducting table top reviews.

  • Technical leadership tasks may include leading mishap investigations and driving implementation of corrective actions; sharing lessons learned with other subject matter experts within Propulsion Systems; implementing lessons learned from other SMEs within PS locally; identifying systemic issues within the work center and developing solutions; develop training and provide mentorship to other engineers within the composite manufacturing group; performing special engineering assignments as requested by leadership.

Position Requirements: 

  • Strong understanding of rocket motor manufacturing design and processes

  • Demonstrated ability to deploy a strong risk based decision-making process

  • Capable of working across organizations internally

  • Ability to communicate technically complex topics and scenarios clearly and concisely

  • Lead team in risk assessments, process failure mode analyses; able to develop standard work, command media, innovation, and training

  • Able to maintain a focus on big-picture solutions: MRB reduction, PES cycle time reduction, cost reduction, quality improvements, etc.

Experience and Education:

  • BS Degree in Engineering or related field plus 12 years’ experience or MS Degree with 14 years’ experience

Preferred Experience: 

Authoring work instructions, GD&T, 3D modeling

Composite Manufacturing design and process knowledge

  • Knowledge of composites used in liners

  • Processing knowledge of broad goods, tape wrap and cure methods

  • Composite and metal machining and processes

  • Nozzle dissection

Salary Range: $139,000 USD - $208,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
