We are currently looking for a Principal Engineer Manufacturing to work in our manufacturing facility where we manufacture printed circuit boards, wire harnesses, hydraulic assemblies and precision machined and fabricated components in support of naval and marine, missile defense and space partners employing additive manufacturing, automation, and advanced visualization tools. This position will be located in Charlottesville, VA.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for components and assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling utilizing logical sequencing and manufacturing best practices to achieve cost targets.
  • Coordinates with production on day-to-day activities. Conducts root cause/corrective action investigations using multiple tools; 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram, 5D, etc. to resolve routine manufacturing process issues and assists in the resolution of complex manufacturing process issues.
  • Coordinates with Design Engineering on design and manufacturability issues. Research and evaluate commercially available tools and equipment to support manufacturing activities. Designs special tooling as required.
  • Troubleshoots existing processes to improve safety, quality, cost and efficiency.
  • Educates/trains operators on new and existing processes.
  • Incorporates engineering changes on work in process.
  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
  • Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering or related field with 5 years of experience; Master's with 3 years of experience; or Associate in Engineering with 7 years of experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Experience with machining, welding, and fabrication.
  • Experience with project estimating and customer collaboration.
  • Knowledge of sub-assembly to higher assembly build structure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CAD including NX or other 3D Solid Modeling Software, TeamCenter, AutoCAD, MasterCAM, SAP
  • Ability to read and interpret Mechanical Drawings
  • Experience programming CNC machines

Salary Range: $82,000 USD - $123,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
