Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking for an Engineer Structural or Principal Engineer Structural to support the organization in El Segundo, CA.

Candidates will collaborate in a multi-disciplinary inter product team of engineers to ensure structural integrity. Candidates will perform both classical and finite element analysis of aircraft primary and secondary structures, analysis of bolted and bonded joints, composite laminate analysis, and analysis of fittings and fasteners.


Essential Functions:

Duties include drawing analysis review and sign-off, presenting results at PDR/CDR meetings and Internal Design Reviews, documenting analysis results, and supporting structural testing with pre-test analysis and authoring of test plans and test reports. Responsibilities could also include including leading a small work package, interfacing with customer, technical support, proposal technical inputs, cost estimating, meeting schedule and cost commitments. The candidate will be required to coordinate with other engineering disciplines for analysis inputs and design implementation.

Duties may consist of analysis, research and development of structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analysis of damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include NASTRAN, FEMAP, NX, ABAQUS, SLIM/VISION and a variety of software applications.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on the qualifications listed below. This requisition may be filled at either a level 2 or a level 3.

Basic Qualifications Engineer Structural :

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering, from an accredited university with 2 years of experience in Aerospace industry (Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil); OR Masters of Science in Engineering, from an accredited university with 0 years of experience in Aerospace industry (Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil)
  • Experience with stress analysis techniques, concepts and practices
  • Experience using industry standard structural analysis software such as NASTRAN, FEMAP, NX
  • Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances:
  • DOD Secret with a background investigation date within 10 years

Basic Qualifications Principal Engineer Structural:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering, from an accredited university with 5 years of experience in Aerospace industry (Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil); OR Masters of Science in Engineering, from an accredited university with 3 years of experience in Aerospace industry (Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil)
  • Experience with stress analysis techniques, concepts and practices
  • Experience using industry standard structural analysis software such as NASTRAN, FEMAP, NX
  • Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances:
  • DOD Secret with a background investigation date within 10 years

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with CAD applications (NX)
  • Experience with advanced manufacturing processes
  • Experience working on Special Access Programs
  • Participation in multiple design and analysis cycles in aircraft development programs

Salary Range: $85,000 USD - $127,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
