Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is currently hiring a Structural Engineering Manager 2 (Section Manager) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This leadership role is located in El Segundo or Redondo Beach, CA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the functional engineering activities of approximately 15 Structural Analysis Engineers.
  • Perform IPT engineering tasks, which will comprise most of the statement of work.
  • Provide leadership and direction regarding analysis of metallic and composite aircraft structures, and provide oversight and direction in enforcing quality of analysis to meet program objectives.
  • Ensure customer requirements regarding structural performance and weight are effectively managed within cost and schedule constraints.
  • Product integrity, process adherence, staffing, training, and tools.
  • Process oversight, participation in the performance review process, management of personnel records and participation in corrective or disciplinary actions.
  • Staffing responsibilities may include hiring, recruiting of personnel, and working to ensure that engineers with the appropriate skills and experience are deployed.
  • Manage training opportunities and budget allocations, as well as participation in tool, process, and metric initiatives.
  • Team engagement is a key focus.
  • Mentor, provide career guidance and coaching, and leading others.
  • Travel to other Northrop Grumman and/or customer sites as required.
  • Use excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 9 years of professional/military engineering experience OR a Master’s degree AND 7 years of professional/military engineering experience.
  • The ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance (or higher) prior to start of employment
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance. This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD secret clearance
  • Current/Active Special Program Access.
  • Leadership experience in a people leadership role or matrixed environment.
  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5 or more years of aircraft Structures Analysis experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with analysis tools, such as Femap, Nastran, MatLab, CATIA, NX and a variety of software applications.

This position reports to El Segundo, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Redondo Beach, CA, CA, USA.


Salary Range: $147,800 USD - $221,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
