Northrop Grumman Space Systems has an opening for an Engineering Manager, 3 to join our Commodity Engineering Team within the Global Supply Chain organization of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

The Commodity Engineering Team (CET) is the link between design and acquisition, responsible for supply base technical management of Program hardware needs. This highly visible position requires a motivated self-starter with a design and manufacturing background in Space Mechanical and Mechanisms hardware and assembly processes and knowledge components such as: Machined Parts, Composites, Raw Materials, Motors, Bearings, Resolvers, Harmonic Drives or Mechanical assemblies and associated materials and processes. Candidate will possess highly developed interpersonal skills, have a personal drive to exceed and be capable of working with and managing several small, high performing Commodity teams supporting all Strategic Space System programs.  The teams proactively address productibility, resolve supplier technical and production challenges in alignment with Program, Engineering and Global Supply Chain requirements.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the organization including staffing, balancing employee assignments, employee development and mentoring, and ensuring proper charging practices

  • Create a positive work environment to foster innovation and development necessary to recruit and retain top talent

  • Interpret higher-level guidance for implementation within the organization and ensure appropriate and effective team relationships/interactions with customer, programs, and external organizations

  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise to guide team members and customers to resolve supplier technical questions and issues

  • Provide support to engineering and production teams to ensure productibility and affordability of design and manufacturing systems

  • Provide leadership to drive affordability at all levels of the organization; implement difficult changes that satisfy customer desire for more efficient and timely support

  • Develop and execute effective strategy for capture of follow-on business and seize opportunities for growth

  • Ensure compliance with customer and company standards and policies

  • Travel up to 25%

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors of Science degree with 14 years of relevant experience in an engineering or manufacturing role; 12 years with a Masters' degree; 9 years with a PhD

  • Experience leading small technical teams toward successful product delivery

  • Experience formulating technical solutions to address Mechanical and Mechanism hardware, assemblies and associated manufacturing process issues

  • Experience with design and/or manufacturing of mechanical details and composite assemblies

  • Experience using SAP and Windows software packages

  • Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD secret clearance and SCI access

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in an engineering or technical discipline preferred

  • Proficient with requirements and verification processes

  • Experience with cost estimation and proposals

  • Knowledge of FAR & DFAR requirements

  • Active DOD Top Secret clearance with SCI access


 


Salary Range: $155,400 USD - $233,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
