Northrop Grumman, Strategic Space Systems Division, has an opening for a Manager Engineering 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

Job Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will manage the Mechanical Materials & Process Laboratories (MMPL) Section in Redondo Beach, CA as part of the larger Materials & Sciences Laboratories (MSL) Department.

MMPL is composed of five areas:

  • Composites Engineering Lab

  • Environmental Lab

  • Metallography Lab

  • Materials Acceptance Testing (MAT) Lab

  • Mechanical & Specialty Test Lab

The section performs material & process testing and characterization in support of programs, prototype development, NCTA, IRAD, and capital fabrication tasks for a variety of materials including paints, composites, electronic components, metals, and adhesives among others.

The MMPL Section Manger is responsible for the following:

  • Ensuring laboratory operations are performed safely

  • Ensuring laboratory operations are in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and Northrop Grumman ethics and policies

  • Managing and leading daily laboratory operations

  • Managing staffing for the section including performance management and discipline

  • Providing technical oversight for the section and directorate as required

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline plus 5 years of engineering experience OR Masters of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline plus 3 years of engineering experience.

  • Proven leadership experience on a project and/or team

  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret Clearance or SCI Access

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a test laboratory

  • Experience with composites or metallurgical engineering

  • Experience with process improvement activities

  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance


Salary Range: $134,600 USD - $201,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
