Principal/Sr. Principal Engineer Mechanical

Northrop Grumman Marine Systems is seeking a full time on-site swing shift mechanical engineer capable of working with a cross-functional team to maintain production efficiency for surface ship and submarine propulsion and power generation systems for the US Navy.  Must be able to apply engineering principles, industry practice to maintain quality of hardware.  Must be able to lead and develop design concepts, perform trade studies and conduct supporting evaluations and analysis.  Will prepare and present formal technical briefings as required.

This position focuses on rotating machinery design and general design engineering for ship and submarine propulsion and power generation systems involving steam turbines, gearboxes and generator sets additional activities include developing new designs from concept, through detailed design, manufacture and test phases. Job requirements also include supporting manufacturing activities on existing production contracts. 

Basic Qualifications T3:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline with 5 or more years engineering experience; Master's of Science degree in a STEM discipline with 3 or more years of experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level security clearance is required
  • Computer skills including developing designs using solid modeling software, such as CREO/NX is required.
  • A working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 drawing standards and geometric tolerance is also necessary
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in an interactive group environment are essential
  • Must be fluent in mechanical engineering principles, and must be proficient in developing design concepts, performing trades-studies, and conducting supporting evaluations and analyses

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in GD&T and solid modeling NX
  • Current active DoD Secret clearance

Basic Qualifications for a Level 4:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline with 9 or more years engineering experience; Masters of Science degree in a STEM discipline with 7 or more years’ experience
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance is required.
  • Computer skills including developing designs using solid modeling software such as ProE, is required.
  • A working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 drawing standards and geometric tolerance is also necessary.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in an interactive group environment are essential.
  • Must be fluent in mechanical engineering principles, and must be proficient in developing design concepts, performing trades-studies, and conducting supporting evaluations and analyses.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Masters degree in Engineering Discipline.
  • 2 years’ experience in rotating machinery.
  • Local candidates preferred.

Salary Range: $95,000 USD - $142,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $117,700 USD - $176,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
