Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking candidates for the position of Manager Mechanical Engineering 1 or Manager Mechanical Engineering 2.  The selected candidate for this position will report to the Northrop Grumman Precision Targeting and Protection facility in Apopka, FL.

What You’ll Get To Do:

This is a dual-role technical manager position.  The Manager Mechanical Engineering 1 or Manager Mechanical Engineering 2 will require tasking and coordination of approximately 10-15 engineers, and process and resource coordination with functional homeroom management. The position will also have 75% of his/her time allocated to technical responsibilities. This candidate will demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, leadership, and technical capabilities. He/she must be a self-starter, able to efficiently operate in a team environment, and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish the team goals. The candidate will work closely with other developers, and engineering disciplines.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Interface with mechanical engineers to develop flow down of mechanical design requirements and technical specifications
  • Develop, document, and maintain mechanical designs both individually and as part of a larger team
  • Identify risks, suggest mitigations, track defects, develop resolutions, and track and report status
  • Conduct reviews of product mechanical, individual mechanical designs, and technical documents
  • Exercise Agile principles while developing mechanical designs using continuous integration workflow 
  • Ensure mechanical design quality by exercising different types of tests, documenting the results, and exercising automated testing wherever possible
  • Support team in integrating various sensors into a larger platform
  • Assist in the creation of hardware integration and test setups
  • Solve complex problems through innovative and creative solutions
  • Support/lead project execution over the whole product lifecycle, with foremost emphasis on meeting or exceeding customer and stakeholder requirements  
  • Facilitate and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage a group of up to 15 direct reports:
  • Lead mechanical engineering staffing planning and assignments
  • Execute performance reviews & set attainable goals for the team
  • Guide the employees regarding career development
  • Support teams or individuals to improve performance and achieve goals through coaching and mentoring
  • Create and support department policies, procedures, and budgets
  • Provide flow-down and direction from upper management and the organization

Basic Qualifications for a Manager Mechanical Engineering 1:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related STEM field and a minimum of 5 years of mechanical design development/engineering experience (3 years' experience with a MS degree). 
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Proficiency in mechanical design CAD tools such as Creo, NX and/or SolidWorks
  • Experience with ANSI Y14.5M GD&T specifications 
  • Experience with electro-mechanical or opto-mechanical integration
  • Experience with mechanical lifecycle such as: specifications, architecture, design, implementation, integration, and maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proven communication and presentation skills
  • Experience with version control and collaboration tools
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security clearance

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related STEM field and a minimum of 9 years of mechanical design development/engineering experience (7 years' experience with a MS degree). 
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Proficiency in mechanical design CAD tools such as Creo, NX and/ors SolidWorks
  • Experience with ANSI Y14.5M GD&T specifications 
  • Experience with electro-mechanical or opto-mechanical integration
  • Experience with mechanical lifecycle such as: specifications, architecture, design, implementation, integration, and maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proven communication and presentation skills
  • Experience with version control and collaboration tools
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in mechanical design development of Optical, Electronic Warfare, Military, or Space Technologies
  • Experience in ANSYS Finite Element Analysis
  • Experience with TeamCenter Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) applications
  • Prior mechanical engineering functional management experience (executing performance appraisals, staffing allocations, design process leadership, and career goals development)
  • Active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security clearance


Salary Range: $96,700 USD - $145,100 USD
Salary Range 2: $116,200 USD - $174,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
