Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector has an opening for a Aircraft Mechanical Subsystems Responsible Engineer / Principal Aircraft Mechanical Subsystems Responsible Engineer in our Air Vehicle Sector to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This role will be located in Melbourne, FL. This position may be filled at a higher grade based on the qualifications below.

In this role you will be responsible for developing, modifying, maintaining the Mechanical (Mechanisms, Landing Gear, Braking, Steering) Systems components that support the overall architecture using engineering practices and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The candidate will have responsibility for procurement of aircraft mechanical systems components (flight controls systems, up-lock and down-lock systems, weapons carriage systems, electromechanical and hydraulic rotary and/or linear drive actuators and etc.) 
  • The candidate will be responsible for integration activities within the mechanical systems team and with other disciplines (Design team, Supplier Management team, Software, VMS, etc.)
  • The candidate will provide support to lab testing and verification activities, as well as problem solving solutions and test for validation and understanding of system dynamics.
  • The candidate will be required to attend internal program, customer and/or supplier technical exchange meetings and/or formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates. 
  • The candidate will support qualification testing of Landing Gear System components (Landing Gear, NWS, Brakes including qualification plans and certification efforts.

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels. The candidate must be a self-starter capable of flourishing in an environment with minimal direction.  The candidate will need to have excellent communication and writing skills with experience in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Basic Qualifications for Aircraft Mechanical Subsystems Responsible Engineer are a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 2 years of engineering experience.
  • Basic Qualifications for Principal Aircraft Mechanical Subsystems Responsible Engineer are a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 5 years of engineering experience, OR Master’s degree AND 3 years of engineering experience.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret clearance or higher (that has a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or is under continuous evaluation).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Access Programs (SAP) prior to the commencement of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline.
  • Familiarity with NX CAD software and Teamcenter PLM.
  • Managerial / Team Lead experience.
  • Aircraft mechanical systems design experience.

Salary Range: $66,600 USD - $99,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $82,000 USD - $123,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
