Northrop Grumman offers exciting and challenging career opportunities with the Rolling Meadows RF and IR Mechanical team, that plays a key role in the mission to protect our military personnel and is dedicated to consistently providing high quality optical and mechanical designs for electronic countermeasure products.

Members of the RF and IR Mechanical team provide concept-to-production development for product lines that include electro-optical (EO) solutions for Navigation, Surveillance, and Targeting systems. Technical skill sets applied by the team include electronics packaging, thermal analysis, structural analysis, kinematic simulations, opto-mechanical design, mechanism design, printed wiring board design, harness design, material selection, metal fabrication techniques, support to hardware build/integration, and environmental testing. The Mechanical team regularly interface with discipline members, including electrical engineering, systems engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, program management, external suppliers, and external customers.

Job Responsibilities:

A Mechanical manager will oversee a group of 7+ engineers and/or designers performing mechanical design. Responsibilities include leading and developing engineering staff, representing the organization to customers and stakeholders, overseeing/owning hardware project execution, allocating staffing across multiple programs, monitoring and improving design processes, coordinating proposal activity, and facilitating collaboration across organizations.

Relevant Skills and Experience:

A Mechanical manager will have relevant experience in one or more of the following disciplines: mechanical engineering, optical engineering, manufacturing engineering, systems engineering, integration & test, electrical engineering, or hardware engineering. The candidate should be familiar with manufacturing and procurement.

A Mechanical manager will have demonstrated highly ethical behavior, and will have developed strong people leadership, project management, and communication skills. He or she will have demonstrated success in leading and developing teams, overseeing project execution, and representing the organization as a prime point of contact for internal stakeholders and external customers.

This position can be filled at the Manager 1 or Manager 2 level:

Basic Qualifications for Manager 1:

• BS degree in Engineering / Physics and minimum 5 years relevant experience; or MS degree in Engineering / Physics with minimum 4 years relevant experience

• Demonstrated success in leading, collaborating, and building teams on complex technical projects

• Demonstrated interest in process improvement initiatives

• Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of management and individual contributors

• US Citizenship and ability to obtain government security clearance

Basic Qualifications for Manager 2:

• BS degree in Engineering / Physics and minimum 9 years relevant experience; or MS degree in Engineering / Physics with minimum of 7 years relevant experience

• Demonstrated success in leading, collaborating, and building teams on complex technical projects

• Demonstrated interest in process improvement initiatives

• Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of management and individual contributors

• US Citizenship and ability to obtain government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• An advanced degree in Engineering / Physics

• Working knowledge of Electronic Warfare system/hardware

• Prior success in leading and developing technical staff

• Strong skills in drawing creation including GD&T and 3D modeling


Salary Range: $107,000 USD - $160,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $128,400 USD - $192,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
