Northrop Grumman is in need of a Principal or Sr. Principal Propulsion Performance Analyst Engineer to work at its Elkton, Maryland location.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct performance analyses in support of solid rocket motor propulsion system design and verification activities.
    • Independently develop methodology and mathematical models to match the physics of the system under evaluation including proper analysis methods/tools, proper boundary conditions, and appropriate material properties
    • Interpret analytical results and develop recommendations pertinent to system improvement.
    • Provide subject matter expertise support in specific aspects of solid performance analysis
    • Provide technical assessments of test hardware and test data including validation of analysis
  • Provide technical mentorship and assistance to less experienced staff
  • Take on technical and project leadership in improvement and product teams
  • Support propulsion and subsystem IPT leads to ensure technical and cost execution of each system component.
  • Form close working relationships with the customer technical community and specific customer technical points of contact.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and presentations of work product to both internal and external customers.

This position can be hired to either the Principal (level 3) position or the Sr. Principal (level 4) position.  Level to be offered depends upon demonstrated experience, education, and competency.

Basic Qualifications for Principal (level 3):

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite
  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM plus five years of related experience or a Master’s Degree in STEM and two or more years of experience.  Preference given for degrees in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Knowledge of system modeling tools such as, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalents.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present analytical results in both oral and written formats.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, presentation, and critical thinking skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Position will occasionally require travel to meet with various customers, in both government and industry, and to interface with suppliers.

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite
  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM plus nine years of related experience or a Master’s Degree in STEM and seven or more years of experience.  Preference given for degrees in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Knowledge of system modeling tools such as, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalents.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present analytical results in both oral and written formats.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, presentation, and critical thinking skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Position will occasionally require travel to meet with various customers, in both government and industry, and to interface with suppliers.

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Current Active Security Clearance
  • Prior experience in solid rocket motor design and analysis
  • Experience using NX solid modeling software, Solid Performance Program (SPP)


Salary Range: $99,800 USD - $149,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $123,800 USD - $185,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
