An organization within Northrop Grumman’s Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division, SYNOPTICS is the world-wide leader in the growth, fabrication, and coating of crystalline materials used in laser systems. These “solid-state” laser crystals are used in products ranging from medical lasers to military laser systems. The Charlotte facility has been operating for over 40 years in the laser industry and has developed the reputation of providing the highest quality products with timely deliveries. Within the facility, solid-state oxide and fluoride crystals are grown from a high-temperature melt. SYNOPTICS has full optical fabrication capabilities for various plano and spherical geometries. Basic Qualifications:

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is required, two plus years of experience is preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Inventor CAM/HSM, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint (Similar CAD/CAM experience will be considered).

Key Responsibilities:

• Upkeep of CAD files and structure, adhering to established drawing naming conventions
• Maintain current engineering and drawing standards
• Create component and assembly level solid models using Autodesk Inventor Create 2D drawings using Autodesk AutoCAD
• Work with manufacturing departments to develop process, tooling, and equipment drawings
• Assist manufacturing departments with creating accurate assembly drawings, BOM’s and specifications
• Coordinate and schedule machine shop workflow to meet customer demand
• Set 5S schedule for shop equipment
• Coordinate with outside vendors for machine repair as necessary
• Prioritize and schedule work to meet customer demand
• Coordinate with Machinists and order appropriate workpiece material and tooling
• Determine when work should be outsourced based on shop capability, capacity, and time
• Inspect outsourced work to ensure adherence to drawing specifications
• Work with department engineers, supervisors, and managers on long-term projects

Salary Range: $73,600 USD - $110,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
