Our Defense Systems Sector is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team in Oklahoma City, OK. to support projects associated with the design and development of communication, navigation, radar, avionics, power and/or electrical systems architecture, components, circuits, and products or aircraft maintenance. The employee will research, develop, design, and test electrical components, equipment, systems, and products for defense systems or commercial purposes.

This engineer will support the Lead Engineer in execution of various program activities, to include program reviews, test procedure, report, and control plan development and review, requirements management, automated test software development, test execution and witnessing, and hardware selection and specification development.

Responsibilities:

  • Works to modify or upgrade flight decks and mission systems on a wide variety aircraft
  • Studies and engages with current Integrated Avionics and Mission Systems technologies, concurrent product definition, architecture definition, design synthesis and verification on a variety of different aircraft platforms
  • Research, plans, designs, and develops / and or modifies mechanical products and systems such as aircraft structure, instruments, controls, and mechanical, thermal hydraulic, or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy
  • Authors repairs to damaged aircraft components
  • Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, and controls
  • Prepares, develops, and presents status reports and designs trade studies

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of engineering experience or a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 0 years of engineering experience
  • Must have basic knowledge of aircraft structure, design criteria, strength of materials, and loading conditions
  • Familiarity with fundamental (classical) stress hand calculations
  • Understanding of static stress analysis (FE and free body)
  • Metallic Materials Properties Development and Standardization (MMPDS)
  • Ability to interface effectively in a cross functional team environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD, NX/Solid works, et al.)
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) secret security clearance
  • Ability to obtain/maintain base access for Hill AFB , Tinker AFB or Warner Robins AFB

Preferred Qualifications:

  • DoD Secret Clearance
  • The preferred candidate will have a familiarity with the following documents and aerospace engineering applications
  • Niu: Airframe Structural Design Bruhn Analysis and Design of Flight Vehicle Structures
  • Flabel: Practical Stress Analysis for Design Engineers MIL-STD-461G, Requirements for the Control of Electromagnetic Interference Characteristics of Subsystems and Equipment MIL-STD-464, Electromagnetic Environmental Effects

    Salary Range: $63,000 USD - $94,600 USD
    Salary Range 2: $0 USD - $78,800 USD

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
