Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Senior Principal Structural Engineer to lead the execution and management of facility projects that support both sustaining infrastructure and new program facilitation requirements at our Clearfield, Utah location.

In this position you will plan, design and oversee the reconfiguration, maintenance, and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, and other facilities.  Responsibility includes gathering, reviewing, and finalizing requirements data regarding facility or equipment specifications, required completion dates, and construction feasibility.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Scopes of Work (SOWs) and supporting documents for procurement of design and construction services

  • Reviews and estimates design costs, including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other related costs

  • Inspect or direct the inspection of construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules

  • Design new facility layouts or alterations to existing structures or construction of new structures, this will include navigating building codes and permits

  • Perform structural design and analysis supporting facility projects such as equipment foundations and building structures

  • Coordinate with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings

  • Check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards

  • Develop schedules, work assignments and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion

  • Coordinate with other engineers and craftsman assigned to the project or a task, and reviews work progress and results

  • Develop plans to orderly remove old unused structures and equipment as well as plan for replacement of existing old structures to help meet evolving business needs

  • Provide detailed cost estimates for project design and implementation

Basic Qualifications:

  • 9 years’ experience of civil engineering experience and Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering degree; or 7 years’ experience and MS Degree or 4 years’ experience and PhD

  • Must be a US citizen

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance/ Special Program Access

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering (PE) License

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills in managing time, projects and resources

  • Experience using common construction materials in designs (i.e. steel, concrete, wood, CMU)

  • Experience designing equipment pads and foundations including tank design

  • Must be familiar with building codes: IBC, IEBC, and ASCE 7

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Utah Code and Regulatory requirements

  • Interpret building and utility drawings and make the revisions as required

  • AutoCAD and/or Revit drafting experience

  • Proficiency in structural analysis tools, RISA or Revit

  • Familiarity with wood design including large timber, is preferred

  • Familiarity with NFPA is preferred

  • Have applied knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project)


Salary Range: $112,000 USD - $168,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
