Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems – Propulsions Division is currently seeking an experienced Sentinel Principal/ Sr. Principal Project Propulsion Engineer to provide Stage 1 and Stage 2 Rocket Motor Teams leadership for the Sentinel team in our Promontory, UT offices.

 

Role description & Responsibilities:

The Project Engineer is responsible for establishment and execution of all technical aspects of Development, Qualification, and Production of the Stage One (S1) and Stage Two (S2) Solid Rocket motors.  These positions will manage the technical products and aspects associated with design, engineering & manufacturing development (EMD), and follow-on production phases.   The Project Engineer may also be responsible for the scale up of products, processes, tooling, and facilities for low rate and high rate production. Fast paced development programs offer the potential for the Project Engineer to work with a variety of resources/teams/divisions and witness the entirety of the programs engineering lifecycle.  Currently there are three Project Engineer job openings.

Openings:

  • RMA Project Engineer – Rocket Motor Assembly, installs nozzle, igniter and finalizes a SRM (Solid rocket Motor) after propellant has be cast into the motor.

  • Case Project Engineer – The composite structural portion of the SRM that provides the primary structure and withstands the pressure with the SRM.

  • Test Project Engineer– Primary purpose is conducting qualification testing including large static solid rocket motor tests.

Job Duties:    

  • Develop program execution plans

  • Design authority for the S1 and S2 designs

  • Supports production operations

  • Development, coordination and allocation of requirements

  • Assemble and develop efficient cross functional teams to execute plans

  • Identify design concepts and mature into design solutions that meet the customer needs

  • Develop MS Project based master schedules, integrated logic flows, work breakdown, and assist in program cost estimates

  • Coordination and implementation of design and analysis activities

  • Development of test plans and coordination of testing with test engineers

  • Identification of risks/mitigations and tracking to closure in Risk Tracker

  • Coordination and Conducting Reviews

  • Lead problem and failure investigations

  • Write technical reports

  • Presentations – internal and external

  • Ability to Travel expectation of 5% – 10%

  

Experience Requirements:  

Candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of Project Leadership experience.

  • Candidate must have demonstrated ability to:

  • Plan and execute complex, fast paced projects

  • Communicate technically complex topics and scenarios clearly and concisely

  • Build relationships necessary to function efficient teams

  • Be capable of actively and efficiently working multiple projects

  • Have the ability to get work done through others

  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance

Experience Preferred

  • Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years in solid rocket motor design and manufacture experience.

  • Strong understanding of solid rocket motor system design, development, and manufacture

  • Demonstrated experience with problem solving, problem investigation teams and critical decision making skills

  • Strong understanding and broad application of PS engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.)

  • Demonstrated experience in generating technical solutions in the absence of complete customer requirements

  • Management of engineering scope as it pertains to budgeting and participation in EAC reviews

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations

  • Demonstrated team leadership skills - leader of significant technical projects or investigations and management of multiple program tasks to schedule and budget Experience with the proposal process

  • Knowledge and experience in System Engineering tools and disciplines

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and design for manufacturability

  • Ability to perform solid modeling using NX

Education/Certifications

  • BS degree in Engineering required

  • 5 Years with BS; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD

  • Position can be filled one level higher, 9 Years with a BS, 7 Years with MS and 4 years with Ph.D.

  • Ability to work with energetic materials as a U. S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, firearms and explosives; “Employee Possessor” – required

  • US Citizenship – required


Salary Range: $99,800 USD - $149,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $112,000 USD - $168,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
