NGDS’s Missile Products Group is seeking a manager for our Structural and Thermal Engineering Analysis Group at our Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) location in Rocket Center, WV. ABL develops and manufactures a broad range of products, primarily for defense, with a focus on tactical solid rocket propulsion. This technical management position oversees a technically diverse team of highly skilled engineering analysts who support our product teams in all phases of their programs’ lifecycles. The group’s duties center on the use of computer modeling and simulation tools, such as finite element and computational fluid dynamics analysis software, in designing and evaluating solid rocket motors and other defense and aerospace subsystems. Experience with solid rocket motors, composite structures, and gas or structural dynamics is highly desirable, but not required.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Manage the daily operations of the Analysis Group
  • Provide leadership and development support to the team members
  • Evaluate performance of individuals and provide feedback through periodic discussions
  • Work with program teams in developing analysis plans to meet requirements
  • Manage the workflow of analysis requests to meet program team schedules
  • Participate in the technical review of analyses performed by the group
  • Attend program design and test reviews when required
  • Assure established policies and procedures are being followed
  • Manage group staffing to meet workload

Basic Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, a candidate must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • BS or higher degree in Engineering or Physics
  • 5 years experience in design or analysis of complex systems
  • Strong knowledge of solid mechanics and structures
  • Knowledge of heat transfer analysis
  • Sound technical decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail to achieve results
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a wide range of individuals and audiences
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Knowledge of composite materials
  • Knowledge of steady state and transient dynamic analysis
  • Knowledge of viscoelastic and hyperelastic materials
  • Knowledge of adhesives and adhesive joints
  • Knowledge of CFD
  • Prior demonstrated experience leading a team or complex effort; or prior managerial experience
  • Experience in an aerospace manufacturing facility
  • Position prefers a candidate with an active DoD Secret security clearance

Salary Range: $106,400 USD - $159,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
