We have an opening for a Sr. Principal Engineer Quality to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Tactical Space organization. This position will be located in Los Angeles, CA.

Job Summary:

In this role you will:

  • Develop methodologies for ensuring products and processes developed by suppliers, of all product levels, are compliant to the requirements of NG TSSD requirements
  • Maintain quality evaluation, apply appropriate control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product through the suppliers facility
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Global Supply Chain, and Safety Mission Assurance teams to ensure supplier’s quality standards are in place
  • Design and analyze inspection and testing processes, mechanisms, and equipment; and perform statistical analysis to determine the responsibility for products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications
  • Conduct audits of the supplier’s quality systems and process for deficiency, identification and correction
  • Conduct source inspections of materials at supplier sites
  • Ensure that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards, and that documentation is compliant with requirements
  • Engage in hardware failure investigations, Flight/Material Review Boards, and Corrective Action initiatives
  • May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies
  • Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.
  • Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
  • Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
  • Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
  • Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
  • Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.
  • May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality. May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.   "Knowledge, Skills and Ability
  • Applies extensive technical expertise, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings.
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
  • Work is performed without appreciable direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long- term perspective, for desired results.
  • Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives.
  • Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations."

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM Discipline (preferably Engineering) with
  • 9 years of experience (ideally in a space/aerospace environment within S&MA or Quality Assurance)
  • Prior experience with manufacturing processes
  • Understands basic root cause and corrective action processing
  • Be capable of and willing to traveling to supplier’s sites, both CONUS and International
  • Possess an active US Passport
  • Must have US citizenship



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience performing source inspections, process audits, and QMS audits
  • Understands and has conducted root cause and corrective action processing on products
  • Certification to IPC and/or NASA soldering and/or harnessing standards
  • Understands basic root cause and corrective action processing
  • Experience with electronic and mechanical manufacturing processes
  • Experience in the fabrication of RF printed wiring boards
  • Experience in the fabrication of printed wiring boards

Salary Range: $117,700 USD - $176,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
