Northrup Grumman Space Systems has an opportunity for a Principal Quality Engineer or Sr Principal Quality Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Aurora, CO. Join the Space Systems PGS Division in its Drive for Excellence and work with our team of experts in developing and delivering Space PGS systems and solutions that keep our world safe.

The Principal Quality Engineer or Sr Principal Quality Engineer develops, modifies, applies, and maintains standards for hardware quality operating methods, processes, systems and procedures. Conducts hardware inspection, testing, verification and validation. Implements hardware development and maintenance processes and methods. Ensures measures meet acceptable reliability standards. Develops overall operating criteria to ensure implementation of the quality program according to project, process and contract requirements and objectives. Ensures that project and process control documentation are compliant with requirements, objectives and/or contract. Reviews hardware design, change specifications, and plans against contractual and/or process requirements. Reviews include applicable specifications, materials, tools, techniques, and methodologies. Performs or directs verification of hardware capabilities allocations, traceability, and testability.

This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Quality Engineer or Sr Principal Quality Engineer.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Quality Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree within a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or other STEM discipline from an accredited college/university with a minimum 5 years of relevant experience; 3 years with a master’s degree or 0 years with a PhD.
  • Top Secret clearance required to start. Must be able to obtain and maintain an SCI.
  • AS9100 based quality system implementation and maintenance.
  • A9100 auditing experience and/or auditor training
  • Demonstrable knowledge of hardware development methods and systems engineering practices
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate hardware work products.
  • Experience performing receiving inspection on hardware.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and schematics.

Basic Qualifications for Sr Principal Quality Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree within a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or other STEM discipline from an accredited college/university with a minimum 9 years of relevant experience; 7 years with a master’s degree or 4 years with a PhD.
  • Top Secret clearance required to start. Must be able to obtain and maintain an SCI.
  • AS9100 based quality system implementation and maintenance.
  • AS9100 auditing experience and/or auditor training
  • Demonstrable knowledge of hardware development methods and systems engineering practices
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate hardware work products.
  • Must have a solid understanding of nonconformance resolution and corrective action implementation.
  • Experience performing receiving inspection on procured hardware.
  • Strong understanding of electronic and mechanical engineering drawings
  • Strong understanding of industry specifications/standards for inspecting electronic and mechanical assemblies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Agile and/or DevOps projects.
  • Experience/certification inspecting to IPC-A-610 class 3 and IPC/WHMA-A-620.
  • Experience/certification inspecting to IPC-J-STD-001.
  • Understanding of GD&T practices


Salary Range: $90,600 USD - $136,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $112,300 USD - $168,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
