Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a high caliber Quality Engineer/Principal Quality Engineer with a background in Mission/Quality Assurance, program execution, software, hardware, and systems engineering,  join the Mission Assurance team in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The candidate selected will monitor and improve mission/quality assurance system elements that assure program execution and customer goal satisfaction. The Quality Engineer will support The DARC Program in the Colorado Springs area.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Quality Engineer will ensure compliance with all contractual requirements, and sector/division policies and procedures, while contributing to the program’s effective process implementation.

Tasks will include:

Independently assessing program cost, and schedule; Assists in the performance of independent quality reviews to ensure compliance with contractual and customer requirements; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications. Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction assuring process and product quality. Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements. Assuring the quality of software and hardware engineering and test verification activities, and participating in software development and test peer reviews.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of software and hardware mission assurance principles and Safety Engineering, the discipline to enforce them, and will possess strong communication skills and the ability to work closely and effectively with program personnel.

May specialize in the areas of design, inspection of incoming product, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality. May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.

This requisition may be filled at a higher job grade based on the qualifications listed below.

This requisition may be filled as either a Quality Engineer or a Principal Quality Engineer.

Basic Qualifications for a Quality Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM field and 2 years of related experience in supporting mission/quality assurance, systems engineering, systems integration, software engineering, software development, software test processes, hardware engineering and development or program management; 0 years with a Masters
  • Solid written and verbal interpersonal, communication skills and confidence to brief senior management with solid foundation in Mission Assurance applications.
  • Good understanding of the specific AS9100 Standards impacting program performance.
  • Possess an ACTIVE Secret clearance. Ability to obtain and maintain an advanced security clearance.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Quality Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM field and 5 years of related experience in supporting mission/quality assurance, systems engineering, systems integration, software engineering, software development, software test processes, hardware engineering and development or program management; 3 years with a Masters; 0 years with a PhD
  • Solid written and verbal interpersonal, communication skills and confidence to brief senior management with solid foundation in Mission Assurance applications.
  • Good understanding of the specific AS9100 Standards impacting program performance.
  • Possess an ACTIVE Secret clearance. Ability to obtain and maintain an advanced security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Mission Assurance/Quality Assurance experience
  • Knowledge of RCCA process
  • Good understanding of the specific AS9100 Standards impacting program performance.
  • Excellent data analysis skills


Salary Range: $68,100 USD - $102,100 USD
Salary Range 2: $83,800 USD - $125,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
