Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Principal Engineer Quality to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.

Position Overview:

The Sr. Principal Engineer Quality will work as part of the MDS BU Supplier Quality organization to ensure that products and performance meets established company, regulatory and customer requirements to ensure mission success. The primary function of this role will be to provide on-site QE support and oversight at a major subcontractor facility(s) in Melbourne, FL to ensure that all customer and company requirements are met.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides on-site oversight of the subcontractor to ensure that all procedures are followed, and all contractual requirements are met
  • Create, develop, and conduct inspections and audits at NGC subcontractor/supplier site as required
  • Support Mandatory Government Inspections
  • Works closely with suppliers/subcontractors to ensure requirements are met and that a quality system is maintained
  • Works with suppliers and subcontractors to investigate problems and develop RCCA to address non-conformances / process findings.
  • Effectively communicates with teammates, suppliers, and customer representatives.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and reports on quality discrepancies related to assembly, process, mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Interfaces with manufacturing, engineering, customer, supplier, and subcontractor representatives to ensure requirements are met.
  • Assures compliance in program quality, process improvement, and internal auditing in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Supports the development of SQ metrics.
  • Provide QE support for software installations and testing.
  • Provide QE support for hardware installation, modifications, and configuration changes.
  • Ability to work independently with limited direct / in-person supervision
  • Support leadership meetings/reviews by providing QSMA status and inputs (PMRs, PCABs, etc.)

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline plus 9+ years of experience (MS degree 7 years of experience, PHD 4 years of experience) in a quality assurance, mission assurance, or related engineering role
  • Ability to work flexible or extended hours and travel offsite as required to support business needs.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated problem-solving skills who can work with minimal direction.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% to support business needs
  • A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance is required to start


Preferred Qualifications:

  • GMD or related missile defense program experience
  • Proficient SAP user
  • Proficient Jira user
  • Process improvement implementation experience
  • Working with Agile Framework and Methodologies
  • Supply Chain Management & Procurement experience
  • Software development lifecycle understanding
  • Extensive experience conducting audits and inspections on site at a supplier facility
  • AS9100 Auditor certification and/or extensive knowledge of the AS9100 standard
  • IPC-620 certified

Salary Range: $101,600 USD - $152,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
