Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Quality Engineering Manger to join our Factory Quality Engineering team at the BWI campus. This position will report into the Factory QE functional organization, and the qualified candidate will lead a team of Quality Engineers supporting all programs and contracts within Final Assembly manufacturing cells.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides clear assignments, helps employees connect their efforts to the bigger picture, creates an inclusive work environment characterized by mutual respect and the valuing of differences, and builds a culture that motivates employees to their highest levels of performance.
  • Maintains and continuously develops technical knowledge in quality engineering, specifications/standards, drawing interpretation, measurement and analysis methods, processes and products, relevant technologies, lean manufacturing and problem solving methodology.
  • Establishes strong business relationships with programs, cell leadership and cross functional organizations.
  • Regularly communicates program execution status and quality metrics to a wide audience of professionals and leadership.
  • Leverages metrics, customer, and program feedback to assess risks & opportunities.
  • Collaborates with DCMA, programs and functional teams to ensure product/process compliance and strong delivery performance.
  • Provides manpower and forecast plans.
  • Conducts audits and supports third party factory audits.
  • Ensures correct and effective metrics are utilized to improve product compliance and quality performance across the factory.
  • Provides guidance to peers and management in the pursuit of quality excellence.
  • Applies extensive technical knowledge in industry standard quality engineering methods, interpretation of drawing requirements and applicable specifications & standards, and mechanical measurement & analysis
  • Proactively establishes and maintains high technical competency in products, manufacturing and business processes, and related technologies
  • Confidently facilitates efforts to resolve complex quality problems using sound problem-solving methodology – including through application of established root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action methods
  • Leads efforts to identify and reduce safety, quality, and business risks through application of formal and informal methods
  • Leads efforts to reduce waste and improve processes through application of established continual improvement methods
  • Engages in Preventive & Corrective Action Board (PCAB) process
  • Promotes and implements World Class Manufacturing (WCM) framework
  • Serves as a “strong voice for quality” and a role model for NG Values
  • Trains, mentors, and develops junior-level personnel, and participates in the design and implementation of training materials
  • Serves as a Factory Quality Engineering liaison for adjacent Quality functions – including Supplier Performance Management, Compliance, Program Quality, and Inspection

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related STEM field
  • Minimum of nine (9) years of relevant work experience; or seven (7) years with Master’s Degree; or four (4) years with PhD
  • Experience leading projects and/or teams
  • Previous experience working in quality, supply chain, program management, engineering, or manufacturing
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance. US Citizenship Required.
  • Solid written and verbal technical communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills – including ability to establish and maintain positive working relationship with stakeholders and customers at all levels
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems (e.g. AS9100, ISO 9001, etc…)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a STEM field
  • ASQ Certified Manager of Quality / Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), Quality Engineer (CQE), Reliability Engineer (CRE), and/or Quality Auditor (CQA)
  • J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, and/or IPC/WHMA-A-620 certifications
  • Project management certification
  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or Master Black Belt
  • Experience leading or working on Agile project teams
  • SAP experience
  • Experience with World Class Operations (WCO)
  • Seasoned facilitator for Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities
  • Well-versed in the application of industry standard statistical methods, including through implementation of statistical analysis software applications (e.g. Minitab)
  • Strong background in design and/or manufacturing of electromechanical products
  • Defense industry experience, including interface with government customers
  • Experience with shipping and logistics processes
  • Experience maintaining positive supplier relationships, including through successful resolution of supplier quality challenges
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $116,600 USD - $175,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
