Northrop Grumman Space sector is seeking a Sr. Principal Quality Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Linthicum, MD location.  The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) team that interacts with Suppliers, Program Quality Engineers, and Manufacturing Operations on products to meet our customer’s mission needs.

Responsible for Supplier Quality risk management. Develops and implements supplier quality evaluation and control systems. Assures supplier process and product quality, including contractual, regulatory, and technical compliance. Interfaces directly with supplier personnel and must be knowledgeable in and capable of assessing both supplier quality and manufacturing processes and procedures. Conducts product and process verification activities, monitors supplier quality performance, and drives root cause corrective action analysis for supplier quality issues. Supports the maintenance of the approved supplier list and periodically reviews supplier performance to determine whether suppliers should remain on the approved list. Manages supplier requests for waivers, deviations and discrepancy reporting process. Keeps management apprised of supplier performance, quality status, and risks. Coordinates and oversees Supplier Quality plan implementation through all program phases. Actively engages in supplier evaluation, qualification and selection as part of the Business Acquisition Process (BAP) and as new procurements are required on existing programs. Manages implementation of Supplier Quality processes, including supplier approval activities, source selection evaluations, supplier classification designation (Critical, Key and Standard), development and execution of supplier quality risk assessments and mitigation plans, and supplier quality requirements development and flow-downs.
 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Performs program supply base and supplier quality risk assessments and plans mitigation activities (flowdowns, readiness reviews, inspections, audits)
  • Coordinates with engineering and quality engineering to generate technical and quality requirements (for specifications, drawings, statements of work, etc) that are achievable by supply base.
  • Evaluates and reports on procured material, develops and maintains metrics for monthly reporting.
  • Interfaces with the field supplier quality assurance and program mission assurance to ensure identified program issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Works with the team to establish root cause on identified issues and ensures corrective and preventive actions are documented, implemented, and verified effective.
  • Coordinates efforts to ensure the quality engineering team meets goals and closes actions on time.
  • Conduct audits/assessments to ensure effective processes are well documented and updated as needed
  • Supports the teams Continuous Improvement activities
  • Trains, mentors, and develops junior-level personnel, and participates in the design and implementation of training materials
  • Assist with infrastructure activities related to maintenance of approved supplier records and lists, audit planning, training, SAP procurement quality and supplier controls, monthly and quarterly supplier performance measurement and reporting.
  • Participate in Business Acquisition Process (proposal and business capture) performing supplier evaluation, qualification and selection, assisting with quality and global supply chain plans, scoping and costing supplier quality efforts for Basis of Estimates.

Basic Qualifications:    

  • Sr Principal Engineer: bachelor's degree 9+ years of relevant experience (MS Degree and 7+ years; PhD and 4+ years), 13 years of relevant exp is also acceptable in lieu of degree.
  • Active Top Secret clearance
  • Strong background working with electrical design requirements and specifications
  • Experience with AS9100/ISO9001 Quality Management Systems
  • Experience conducting, leading, and supporting audits

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience working with manufacturing and/or integration and tes
  • Experience with SAP
  • Trained and experienced in performing Root Cause Corrective Action


Salary Range: $112,300 USD - $168,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
