An organization within Northrop Grumman’s Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division, SYNOPTICS is the world-wide leader in the growth, fabrication, and coating of crystalline materials used in laser systems. These “solid-state” laser crystals are used in products ranging from medical lasers to military laser systems. The Charlotte facility has been operating for over 40 years in the laser industry and has developed the reputation of providing the highest quality products with timely deliveries. Within the facility, solid-state oxide and fluoride crystals are grown from a high-temperature melt. SYNOPTICS has full optical fabrication capabilities for various plano and spherical geometries. SYNOPTICS serves the photonics and optics industry across the globe.

Job Duties

  • Position will obtain technical expertise with all SYNOPTICS metrology systems, write technical procedures, provide hands-on tutorials and training to others
  • Review and approve technical drawings, process specifications, test procedures and certification packages
  • Serve as a technical quality assurance and control interface with all other departments, suppliers and customers
  • Perform procurement quality engineering tasks to support Supply chain Management and ensure quality
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, Suppliers and others to resolve quality issues
  • Participate in root cause analysis for internal and external quality issues as well as the development and implementation of any corresponding corrective action
  • Ensures through corrective actions and documentation
  • Perform QA/QC inspection, assist with internal audits to assure that all products and systems comply with applicable specifications, standards, and customer requirements
  • Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products as well as production and measurement equipment
  • Review of contracts and proposals, providing quality assurance inputs and plans as required
  • Support SYNOPTICS Thin Film Coating group with technical measurements expertise and data analysis

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering or related technical field is required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Solid people skills, including strong verbal and written communication
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office Suite is required

Preferred Experience, Skills, or Certifications:

  • Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Hands-on metrology and measurement systems analysis experience
  • Advanced degree in relevant technical discipline
  • AutoCAD, Inventor, Minitab, programming, SQL Server computing skills

Salary Range: $60,900 USD - $91,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
