Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manager Quality Engineering 1 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Mission Assurance and Quality organization. This leadership role is located in Clearfield, UT.

The Manager Quality Engineering 1 will be responsible for leading a high performing Quality team covering Aircraft Inspectors, Quality Engineers.  They will be responsible for promoting the professional development of the Quality & Mission Excellence workforce and foster a collaborative culture that sustains the momentum growth and continuous improvement, which will include the following responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides clear assignments, helps employees connect their efforts to the bigger picture, creates an inclusive work environment characterized by mutual respect and the valuing of differences, and builds a culture that motivates employees to their highest levels of performance.
  • Maintains and continuously develops technical knowledge in quality engineering, specifications/standards, drawing interpretation, measurement and analysis methods, processes and products, relevant technologies, lean manufacturing and problem solving methodology.
  • Establishes strong business relationships with programs, cell leadership and cross functional organizations.
  • Regularly communicates program execution status and quality metrics to a wide audience of professionals and leadership.
  • Leverages metrics, customer, and program feedback to assess risks & opportunities.
  • Conducts audits and supports third party factory audits.
  • Ensures correct and effective metrics are utilized to improve product compliance and quality performance across the factory.
  • Provides guidance to peers and management in the pursuit of quality excellence.
  • Proactively establishes and maintains high technical competency in products, manufacturing and business processes, and related technologies
  • Confidently facilitates efforts to resolve complex quality problems using sound problem-solving methodology – including application of established root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action methods
  • Leads efforts to identify and reduce safety, quality, and business risks through application of formal and informal methods
  • Leads efforts to reduce waste and improve processes through application of established continual improvement methods
  • Engages in Preventive & Corrective Action Board (PCAB) process
  • Serves as a “strong voice for quality” and a role model for NG Values
  • Trains, mentors, and develops junior-level personnel, and participates in the design and implementation of training materials

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree (STEM) AND 9 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering/ Quality, OR a Master's Degree (STEM) AND 7 years; of related professional/ military experience, OR a PHD AND 5 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering/ Quality
  • Must have prior management/leadership experience.
  • Must have the ability to obtain DoD Secret security clearance (US Citizenship required)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working in quality, supply chain, program management, engineering, or manufacturing
  • Solid written and verbal technical communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills – including ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders and customers at all levels
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems (e.g. AS9100, ISO 9001, etc…)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • ASQ Certified Manager of Quality / Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE), Quality Engineer (CQE), Reliability Engineer (CRE), and/or Quality Auditor (CQA)
  • Project management certification
  • Seasoned facilitator for Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities
  • Defense industry experience, including interface with government customers

Salary Range: $105,600 USD - $158,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
