Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for a Program Quality Engineer for Charlottesville, VA

The Program Quality Engineer:

  • Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
  • Performs oversight and monitoring of program risks and opportunities
  • Develops and executes independent quality reviews to ensure compliance with contractual and customer requirements.
  • Identifies key product characteristics and works with Quality Analysts to design and analyze inspection and testing processes, mechanisms, and equipment to ensure delivered quality and customer satisfaction
  • Identifies applicable quality requirements to flow to vendors
  • Leads activities associated with Material Review Boards (MRBs) to include root cause and corrective action identification and developing required notifications to the Customer
  • Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction, assuring process and product quality. Ensures that corrective measures are effective, and that documentation is compliant with requirements.
  • May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality. 
  • Represent Quality function in discussions with Customer or Customer delegates
  • Responsible for ensuring overall program quality

This position may be filled at a level 2 or 3, depending on experience.

Basic Qualifications for a Level 2:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related STEM field
  • Relevant experience of 2+ Years with Bachelors in Science; 0+ Years with Masters; 0+ Years with PhD
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance, US citizenship
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal, communication skills and confidence to brief senior management
  • Ability to interpret Military and Commercial specifications
  • Ability to interpret CAD data, blue prints and schematics
  • Foundation in Quality and Mission Excellence applications
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams to resolve problems or issues

Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related STEM field
  • Relevant experience of 5+ Years with Bachelors in Science; 3+ Years with Masters; 0+ Years with PhD
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance, US citizenship
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal, communication skills and confidence to brief senior management
  • Foundation in Quality and Mission Excellence applications
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams to resolve problems or issues

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering
  • Green/Black Belt Certified in Lean Six-sigma
  • Experience working with manufacturing and/or integration and test
  • Experience in Quality Planning
  • Data Analytics and Statistical Analysis methods and techniques.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Minitab, Tableau, or equivalent tools for statistical analysis.
  • Familiarity with Drive for Excellence (DFX), Zero Defects Program (ZDP) supplier quality and sustainment concepts.
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma DMAIC principles and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) techniques
  • Familiarity and/or certification in IPC-A-600, 620, IPC-J-STD-001, Mil-Perf-38534/35 and Mil-Std-750.
  • Familiarity and/or certification in CMMI level 3
  • Program Management Professional certification
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management Systems
  • SAP familiarity with Quality Notifications, Production Orders and Purchase Orders.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer or equivalent
  • Experience with ISO9001 or AS9100 Quality Management System and First Article Inspections (FAI) AS9102.


Salary Range: $66,600 USD - $99,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $82,000 USD - $123,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
