Northrop Grumman is seeking an Engineer Guidance Navigation Control professional in Chandler, AZ.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide priority guidance, navigation, and control technical contributions for a missile defense targets program
  • Design, develop, implement, verify, and test algorithms and software and simulation tools
  • Perform guidance, navigation, and control of missiles, launch vehicles, and upper stages during powered and coast phases of staging events, launch, flight, earth orbit, interplanetary cruise, and orbital insertion
  • Navigation functions include the statistical processing of measured data points (e.g. Inertial Measurement Units, GPS, altimeters, etc) and their substitution into algorithms estimating physical reality
  • Guidance functions include the formulation of specific equations to achieve a desired position, orientation or orbit in space
  • Control design and analyses processes consist of the development of the control laws and hardware and software requirements to ensure stable and robust flight
  • Support launch vehicle design through all phases from conceptual and preliminary aerodynamic design analyses to integration and test activities
  • Report program milestones, technical approaches, and findings to GNC and program management
  • Manage tasks and schedule to ensure smooth coordination with program and other leads. Assign/monitor work, review for accuracy

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 2 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in STEM
  • Active DOD Secret Security Clearance, or higher
  • Experience in aerodynamic analysis and characterization of missile, rocket, or aircraft systems
  • Working level experience with all flight regimes (subsonic, transonic, supersonic, hypersonic, and rarefied flows). 
  • Working level experience with current legacy aerodynamic computer analysis programs, and support development of modified and new software tools and methods (CFD and industry predictive codes – Fluent, DSMC, Loci-Chem, Fun3D, Cart3D, Missile Datcom).
  • Working level experience with Wind Tunnel Testing and evaluation (transonic and supersonic).
  • Working familiarity with launch vehicle aeroelastic analyses (distributed loads, deflected vehicle effects).
  • Working familiarity with launch vehicle venting analysis requirements and engineering methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering
  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance
  • Familiarity with rocket motor propelled vehicle trajectory design and customer provided requirement analysis in a flight software in simulation environment
  • Experience with autopilot and guidance algorithm design and navigation and actuator subsystems
  • Excellent communication skills

Salary Range: $73,400 USD - $110,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
