Northrop Grumman's Space Systems Algorithms Group is hiring for a Staff Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer within the Launch Vehicle business unit located in Chandler, AZ.

GNC is designing, building, and testing rockets for a mix of DoD, NASA, and commercial customers.

The successful candidate for this position will work on a team developing and implementing algorithms for advanced seeker, track, and discrimination. The team will be responsible for developing the algorithmic set, optimizing the algorithms for use on embedded systems, creating a verification and validation approach, generating simulation models for algorithm testing, and supporting the transfer of those algorithms to fight hardware. The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 14 years of related engineering experience or Master’s Degree and 12 years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. and 9 years of related engineering experience

U.S. citizenship

Active Secret security clearance

Experience in developing requirements for seeker discrimination and tracking algorithms

Experience in designing, implementing, and testing seeker discrimination and tracking algorithms

Experience with electronic countermeasures and decoys

Experience with Electro-Optical systems, Focal Plane Arrays, and sensor electronics

Experience with Digital Signal Processing and Kalman Filtering

A basic knowledge of digital signal processing

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency with Linux and Linux based software development tools

Ability to integrate complex systems that facilitate continuous build, continuous integration, continuous test, and continuous deployment

Working knowledge of hardware/software analysis tools (debuggers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, emulators, etc)

Experience with space craft or launch systems software development is highly desired.

Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management

Previous experience with digital signal or video processing.

Previous experience with Discrimination Algorithms, Machine Learning, and/or Artificial Intelligence.

Previous experience with IR Focal Plane Arrays


Salary Range: $139,000 USD - $208,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
