Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems is looking for you to join our team as a Principal GNC Analyst / Sr. Principal GNC Analyst with the Guidance, Navigation, and Controls organization.

The successful candidate will be responsible designing, developing, implementing, verifying, and testing algorithms, software, and simulation tools to perform guidance, navigation and control of spacecraft and payloads while in orbit, interplanetary cruise and orbital insertion, as well as during launch events.

Navigation functions include the statistical processing of measured data points and their substitution into algorithms simulating physical reality. Guidance functions include the formulation of specific equations to achieve a desired position, orientation in space. Control design and analyses processes consist of the development of the control laws and hardware and software requirements for vehicles and spacecraft.

Responsibilities:

Control loop design and stability analysis for spacecraft and space payloads.  Development of flight software and ground software algorithms to achieve desired control and pointing requirements.  Development and utilization of software simulations of the operational environment of the vehicles and payloads to demonstrate performance capabilities versus requirements. Analysis of line-of-sight pointing capability with flexible body dynamics structural models.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university with 5 years of experience in GNC; OR Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university with 2 years of experience in GNC; OR Doctorate degree in Engineering from an accredited university with an emphasis in Controls
  • Experience with industry standard modeling and simulation tools (MATLAB, Simulink)
  • Experience in the areas of frequency response analysis, stability analysis, on-orbit/jitter analysis, attitude determination
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to work with only general direction
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance


Salary Range: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
