Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for a Staff Engineer Systems Test - Telemetry Tracking & Control. The primary work location for this position at Northrop Grumman’s Space Park Campus in Redondo Beach, California.

AI&T Telemetry Tracking & Control Test Engineer (C&DH) to support all phases of integration and test for the Next Gen Polar program starting with front end planning activities. 

Responsibilities include:

Updating/generating Test Plans, evaluating requirements, generating TIS, CAPE procedures, developing ATS’s, becoming familiar with SV test applications and PL test requirements, performing the calibration/validation for EGSE, performing test equipment movement and setup, performing functional testing. 

Synthesizes customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions that acknowledges technical, schedule and cost constraints. Develops and directs preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules for completing systems. Coordinates integrated testing activities. Reviews and evaluates test requirements to insure completeness of test program. Performs technical analysis of complete systems and prepares comprehensive system level evaluations

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  This position will require candidate to work holidays, weekends, and off-shifts when shift work is required.

Basic Qualification:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline plus 14 years of engineering experience OR a Masters of Science Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline plus 12 years of engineering experience.

  • Must have knowledge of Radio-Frequency (RF), Digital Instrumentation, Telemetry Tracking & Control (TT&C) and Command and Data Handling (C&DH).

  • Proven leadership experience on a project and/or team

  • Experience in Electrical System Level Testing, Integration or Test

  • Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances: Department of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years OR SCI Access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years

Preferred qualifications:

  • Ability to operate in a large Integration and Test environment

  • Ability to function as a member of a team

  • Experience troubleshooting anomalous hardware and software

  • Experience in test script development

  • Basic Programming Skills in one or more of these areas: Python, C, Matlab, Excel

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Excellent technical writing skills

  • Database skills a plus


Salary Range: $146,000 USD - $219,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
