Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Principal Software Engineer (Software Tools Developer) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview:

  

The selected Sr. Principal Software Engineer will join the National Team (Tools Team) and will work as part of a small team to design, develop, test, document and support software and automation tools that enable the National Team to achieve digital transformation and more efficiently accomplish engineering activities in support of the Missile Defense Agency.

Essential Functions:  

  • Assess the needs of the NT-E user base, then determine improvements to the current toolset and propose new solutions for needs not yet addressed.
  • Prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results with limited oversight and direction.
  • Document and commit their code through version control and will document the tools for the user.
  • Familiarize themselves with the details of the current automation tools such that users will be able to rely on them for help and they are able to debug code issues.
  • Assist the team in the configuration and administration of the DOORS and Cameo environments as needed, creating accounts and groups, workspaces and completing other administrative task.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of related experience, or 4 years of experience with a PhD.
  • Experience developing software in object-oriented programming languages such as C, C++, Python or Java.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs.
  • Applicants must have a current active U.S. Government security clearance at the DoD secret level.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering or related field.
  • Previous experience with DXL, VBA, VTL, and Java.
  • Previous experience utilizing/administrating DOORS, Cameo and/or System Architect
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams and customer personnel.
  • Experience analyzing complex problems and developing solutions based on limited direction and definition.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development practices.
  • A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance.


Salary Range: $117,900 USD - $176,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
